Injured Kallis hopeful of being fit for ODIs

Jacques Kallis is hopeful of being fit for the first one-day international against Australia after suffering a groin injury in South Africa's victory in Cape Town

Jacques Kallis is hopeful of being fit for the first one-day international against Australia after suffering a groin injury in South Africa's victory in Cape Town. Kallis, the stand-in captain, left the field during the final session of Australia's second innings and the leadership duties were taken over by the wicketkeeper Mark Boucher.
Kallis had a heavy workload during the game, in which he scored a century and bowled 20 overs in addition to his captaincy role. The strain to his right groin will have extra time to heal as Kallis is not part of the squad for the two Twenty20 internationals to be played over the coming week.
"Hopefully I'll be all right," Kallis said. "I've got a scan tomorrow morning, hopefully it's not too serious. I've got a couple of days off now. I'm not in the Twenty20 squad so I've got two weeks before the first one-day game. Hopefully I'll be ready for that."
The ODI series begins in Durban on April 3. Kallis' team-mates now head to Johannesburg for the first Twenty20 international, which is scheduled for Friday.
