NEW ZEALAND v INDIA 1993-94

At Napier, March 25

15-Apr-1995
At Napier, March 25. New Zealand won by 28 runs. Toss: India.
Spirited batting and accurate bowling saw New Zealand home. The Indian innings started well, reaching 123 for one, but gave way under pressure. Morrison devastated the tail with a hat-trick- bowling Kapil Dev and Ankola with the last two balls of his eighth over and Mongia with the first of his ninth. It was the first hat-trick for New Zealand in limited-overs internationals.
India, less able to exploit the conditions, failed to contain New Zealand, despite reducing them to 60 for three - all caught by Mongia - in 18 overs. Two young batsmen combined to add 144 runs: Fleming, who followed his 92 on Test debut with 90 in his first one-day international, hit eight fours and Thomson seven fours and a six in an equally impressive 83.
Man of the Match: S. A. Thomson.
