South Africa v Australia

At Potchefstroom, March 27

15-Apr-2003
At Potchefstroom, March 27. Tied. Toss: South Africa.
Just when a four-wicket blitz from Ntini seemed to have set up South Africa's first win of the series, Australia's last-wicket pair contrived to snatch a tie - the third between these sides. Coming together in the 46th over, with 37 required for victory, Maher and Hauritz had whittled that down to ten off the last over, bowled by Kallis. The first delivery was a no-ball, off which Maher ran two, but they were restricted to singles off the next five, so Hauritz needed two from the last ball. They managed one, with Maher lamenting afterwards that he was "not Linford Christie". Earlier, Lee dismissed both South African openers to put a brake on their innings, but Rhodes reclaimed the initiative with a brisk 83 from 74 balls, supported by the more circumspect Kallis.
Man of the Match: J. P. Maher.
