SRI LANKA v NEW ZEALAND 1983-84

At Moratuwa, March 31

15-Apr-1985
At Moratuwa, March 31. Sri Lanka won by 41 runs. The young all-rounder, Uvaisul Karnain, had a superb début for Sri Lanka as New Zealand suffered their only defeat of the tour. His 28 late in the order shored up Sri Lanka's innings and gave support to Ranatunga. He then claimed five for 26 with some awkward medium pace. The weather posed difficulties for both sides, shortening the match from 45 to 40 overs and causing it to end in near darkness. Greeted by the first seemingly green pitch of the tour, New Zealand had made a late change to their attack, bringing in Stirling. In the event the pitch was of no assistance to him.
Man of the Match: U. S. H. Karnain.
