Warwickshire have announced that John Claughton, a former batsman with the county, has been named as chairman of their cricket committee with immediate effect. The decision was taken at a meeting last night and is the latest part of restructuring at the club.
Claughton was a member of the 1980 Warwickshire team that won the John Player League. In his first-class career he averaged 21 with a top score of 130 from 55 matches.
The Warwickshire chairman, Neil Houghton, said: "We are very pleased to have someone of John's capabilities taking on such an important role within the Club".
Claughton added that he was looking forward to working with the new team at Warwickshire, which includes Heath Streak as captain. "It is obviously a great honour to be chosen for such a position. These are exciting times for Warwickshire with a successful side, a new director of coaching and a new captain. I hope that I can make some contribution to the club's future."
