Azam Khan

The son of former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan, Azam Khan made his name as a power-hitting wicketkeeper-batter in T20 leagues around the world. Modelling himself after his idol Chris Gayle, Azam's brute strength and aggressive strokeplay have made him a fixture in franchise cricket, despite concerns over his fitness and criticism of his weight that have dogged him since his debut.

He debuted unremarkably for Quetta Gladiators in the 2019 PSL, playing just one match, but the next year he showed glimpses of his raw power, muscling five fours and three sixes in the course of his 33-ball 59 in his first game of the season for Quetta. The same year he made 215 runs, in the Lanka Premier League, with a strike rate of 187, and was the second highest scorer for Galle Gladiators in their run to the final. But his breakout year was 2023, where he scored over 1000 runs in T20s, including an unbeaten 109 off 58 for Khulna Tigers in the BPL - his maiden T20 century. He followed it up with 97 off 42 in the PSL, this time for Islamabad United, then won the CPL with Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Azam has been particularly lethal in the middle order, consistently striking at 150 and above. He has, however, failed to make the same sort of impact for Pakistan in T20Is. He made his debut in 2021 against England but poor returns meant he struggled to cement a place in the side. He was drafted into the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, but was out for a first-ball duck in the opening game and didn't play another game in the tournament.
