A left-arm medium pacer for Bengal in the decade after independence, he will be remembered for having the best figures by an Indian bowler in a first-class innings. He took 10-20 in the first innings against Assam in the 1956-57 Ranji season, the third best figures of all-time. Another career highlight was in the 1955-56 season, when he grabbed 15 wickets in the Ranji semi-final to power Bengal to the title round.
