Joylord Gumbie

A wicketkeeper-batter, Joylord Gumbie first represented Zimbabwe at the Under-19 World Cup in 2014 where he scored 110 runs in five innings and took four catches. However, it took him a further nine years to break into the senior Zimbabwe side, only making his debut in an ODI in 2023 at the World Cup qualifier. In just his fourth ODI, Gumbie scored his maiden half-century - 78 off 103 balls against USA which laid the foundation for Zimbabwe's 408 for 6, their highest total in the history of the format.

Gumbie made his first-class debut for Mashonaland Eagles back in December 2013 as an 18-year-old having made his List A debut two days prior. Three months later he travelled to the UAE for the Under-19 World Cup after which a step up to the senior side seemed natural. But the Zimbabwe call-up remained elusive.

Gumbie toiled away in the domestic circuit for years before finally getting a call-up to the Zimbabwe squad for a one-off Test against Bangladesh in July 2021, but he did not get a game. He did, however, get his T20I cap in a three-match series against Bangladesh in May 2024.
