Toss Sri Lanka chose to bowl vs India
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss for the first time in this series and decided to bowl against India in the fourth T20I in Thiruvananthapuram. India have already sealed the five-match series 3-0.
Both teams made two changes to the XIs that featured in the third T20I in Visakhapatnam. Sri Lanka brought in seamer Kawya Kavindi and all-rounder Rashmika Sewwandi in place of left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera and seamer Malki Madara. Athapaththu, playing in her 150th T20I for Sri Lanka, felt that "chasing is a bit easier because of the dew" and that 140 would be a good score to restrict India to.
Meanwhile, there was a forced change for the hosts, with No. 3 Jemimah Rodrigues unavailable for selection "due to weakness arising from mild fever", and Harleen Deol replacing her. Kranti Gaud, who had played the first three games, was rested, and Arundhati Reddy returned to the XI after missing the third T20I.
Harmanpreet Kaur conceded that India had also wanted to bat first, but said the team did not have any specific target in mind and that "hopefully, we set a good total".
