Mark Boucher took his overnight score of 64 to beyond a hundred, but from then on it was hard work for the visitors as the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI made a strong reply, led by Junaid Siddique's century.
South Africa, resuming on 329 for 8, added 68 runs as they played out 21.3 overs on the second day. Boucher was unbeaten on 107, while Dale Steyn made 32 and Makhaya Ntini chipped in with 11. Farhad Reza and Enamul Haque jnr finished with three wickets apiece.
Steyn, though, didn't make any impact with the ball, going wicketless in his 13 overs as the BCB XI racked up 263 for 5 before close. Openers Siddique and Shahriar Nafees put on a 58-run stand, before Ntini broke the partnership. Nafees was caught behind by Boucher after scoring a brisk 31.

Bermuda's women carved an unwanted niche in the international record books with one of the most abject performances in the game's history. In their opening match of the World Cup Qualifiers at Stellenbosch University, they were bowled out for 13 and then South Africa took only four balls to sweep to a ten-wicket win.
Bermuda's men haven't made much of a positive impact in the game either - eleven months ago, they conceded 413 for 5 against India in the World Cup and lost by 257 runs, the biggest margin in one-day history. But their women have just lowered the bar by several notches.

A fine all-round performance by Sachith Pathirana, who scored an aggressive 62 to lead a middle-order rescue act and then claimed three wickets, took Sri Lanka to a 61-run win in their Group C match against Nepal at the Penang Sports Club.
Nepal initially made a fist of their 237-run chase, and things looked rosy for them when openers Mahesh Chhetri and Anil Mandal (25) added 61 runs for the first wicket in little more than 15 overs. But Pathirana provided a double breakthrough with his left-arm spin when first he got rid of Mandal and then held on to a caught-and-bowled chance from Gyanendra Malla. Things got worse for Nepal when Chettri was stumped by Dinesh Chandimal, who would go on to effect three more such dismissals.

Unlucky nine for Colombo, again

A round-up of the fourth round of the matches of the Premier League Tournament

The game was well within Colts' grasp when they bowled out Nondescripts for 186 in the second innings and set themselves a moderate target of 207. But Colts began their run chase badly, losing their first four wickets for 52 runs. A stand of 62 between Asela Jayasinghe and Jeevantha Kulatunga stemmed he rot to some extent and Colts looked to be back on course for victory at 150 for 5.
But when Kulatunga, who had held the innings together with 71 off 66 balls, was eighth out at 186 the gates were opened again. Colts could only muster a further 11 runs to their total before pace bowler Tharaka Kottehewa knocked back the stumps of Ruchira Perera and Amila Prasad with the first two balls of the 59th over to give Nondrescripts a thrilling win.
Romesh Kaluwitharana, the former Sri Lanka international who is coaching Colts for the third season, blamed some poor batting for the defeat. "Of late our batting has not been clicking the way it should. We have a very good line up and it will be only a matter of time before the batsmen play to their potential," he said. "Overall we did not bat as well as we should have. The senior players are not putting up the big scores that are expected from them and that has become a concern. We have also been unlucky with the toss and have found ourselves batting on difficult tracks."

Mark Cameron enjoyed his first ten-wicket match and Beau Casson regained some bowling form but the top-of-the-table clash between Victoria and New South Wales petered out to a draw at the SCG. The remarkable first-innings tie secured both teams a place in the Pura Cup final, however neither side could claim an advantage on the fourth day.
New South Wales were set a chase of 241 from at least 44 overs but they were in no hurry to overhaul the target as Greg Mail took half an hour to get off the mark. Andrew McDonald and Bryce McGain picked up two wickets each but neither side looked like pulling off a win and the game was called off after 46 overs with the Blues at 4 for 122.

Group B in the Under-19 World Cup is the clichéd 'group of death' because it includes three teams from Test-playing nations but South Africa took a giant step towards qualifying for the Super League quarter-finals by beating West Indies in their tournament opener at the Kinrara Oval. They faced a couple of challenging periods with both ball and bat - West Indies raced off at the start, and South Africa suffered a lower middle-order collapse but they hung on to secure a three-wicket win.
A target of 223 was always within reach even after Pieter Malan was trapped lbw by Jason Dawes in the first over: aggressive innings' from JJ Smuts and Jonathan Vandiar, and Reeza Hendricks' steady 36 kept the run-chase on course. However, the West Indies captain Sharmarh Brooks ran through the lower-middle order with his leg-breaks, reducing South Africa from 149 for 3 to 179 for 7. Rilee Rossouw, a left-hand middle-order batsman, stopped the choke with a composed 58 and steered South Africa toward the target with six overs to spare.

Sylvester Joseph slammed his way to an unbeaten 63 from just 37 balls but it wasn't enough to take his side to victory, as Antigua and Barbuda fell 10 runs short of the target set by Guyana in the last quarter-final match in Coolidge. Electing to field first, Antigua rallied around debutant Chad Hampson to restrict the defending champions to 149 for 9 but stuttered in their reply, with only Joseph offering any appetite for a scrap.
Guyana began briskly thanks to Travis Dowlin, but Joseph removed Sewnarine Chattergoon (18 from 20 balls) with his offbreaks in the sixth over. Then Hampson, a right-arm medium-pacer in his first Stanford 20/20 appearance, struck twice to check the scoring rate. Only Dowlin, with 57 from 45 balls, kept the runs ticking over as the middle order slumped somewhat. Hampson removed Dowlin to finish with a very commendable 3 for 23 and Christopher Barnwell (26 from 16) used the long handle to get Guyana as near to 150 as possible.

A century from Hashim Amla and Mark Boucher's unbeaten 64 boosted the South Africans to 329 for 8 at close on the first day of their three-day warm-up match against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in Fatullah.
Both teams named 12 players [with 11 fielding and 11 batting], which also happens to be the strength of South Africa's squad at present, with opener Neil McKenzie and left-arm spinner Robin Peterson due to join later. Tamim Iqbal was not part of the BCB XI, still suffering from a broken thumb, and veteran Habibul Bashar was also not included.

England's new-ball bowlers were the stars as they helped crush Ireland by ten wickets with more than 34 overs to spare in their first game of the Under-19 World Cup at Bayuemas Oval. Steven Finn, James Harris and Chris Woakes, the three seamers for England, did the job after Ireland were put in to bat, sharing eight out of ten wickets to bundle them out for 109. England's opening batsmen then completed the formalities, knocking off the runs in less than 16 overs.
Ireland's woes began soon after they began batting: Finn struck in his second over, getting rid of Paul Stirling, one of the openers, for 2. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, with Christopher Dougherty, the other opener, the batsman to offer some resistance. He made 34, and was one of only three batsmen to get into double digits. Finn and Harris helped themselves to three wickets each, while Woakes and Tom Westley, an offspinner, took two each.
