Des Hansen was a middle-order batsmen for Queensland in the decade before the Second World War. He made his state debut as a 19-year-old against New South Wales, a match Queensland lost by an innings despite Eddie Gilbert dismissing Don Bradman for a duck. Hansen made 20 and 0, but he kept his place for the game against the South Africans and scored 65. He only managed one more fifty in his next nine matches and he did not appear at all in 1933-34. On his return in 1934-35 he made 147 and 64* in a three-wicket win over South Australia, finishing the season with 415 runs at 51.87. He retained his place through the 1935-36 season but struggled thereafter and appeared only six more times, making 88 runs in ten innings.
