Keith Kirton was a stylish right-hand batsman who played for Border and then Eastern Province between 1948 and 1964, captaining both sides. He was unlucky not to be selected for the national team, coming closest in 1954-55 when he made 599 runs, including three hundreds. Against Rhodesia that season both he and Ossie Dawson scored centuries before lunch.
