MS Indulkar, who died aged 89 in November 2008, represented two states during a brief career. He he played nine games for Baroda between 1941-44 and made a solitary appearance for Maharashtra in 1952.
Indulkar, whose father worked for the royal family in Kolhapur, played for the sugar factory where he was employed before graduating to the first-class level. A middle-order bat and very good fielder, he was was known to be a strict disciplinarian both on and off the field. He was part of the Baroda side - boasting the likes of Vijay Hazare, CS Nayudu and Hemu Adhikari - that beat Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy final in 1942 for their maiden title. He had a best of 42 in 16 first-class innings.
Indulkar's interest in the game was taken up by other members of his family too. His brother Vijay played for Baroda in the 1960s and was later the secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association. His son, Ajit, played for Maharashtra, and his grandson, Vinit, who
played for Mumbai, now represents Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.
