Hailing from Newcastle, Matthew has been an integral part of both NSW and Australian teams at youth level, representing Australia at Under 15,17 & 19 level. His efforts with the new ball last season in capturing 42 wickets were a major contributing factor to his club North Sydney reaching the first grade final. (CricketNSW, June 2002)
