Playing Role

A reliable medium-fast bowler, Pramodya Wickramasinghe lent valuable experience and control to Sri Lanka's attack in the 1990s with his accuracy and movement in the air.

He did reasonably well in Pakistan in his ten Tests there, taking 30 wickets, including three six-wicket match hauls. In March 1995, he helped dismiss New Zealand for 109 in Napier in Sri Lanka's first overseas Test win. Wickramasinghe played three World Cups for Sri Lanka, including their title-winning one in 1996, although he went wicketless in the four games he played in that tournament.

Wickramasinghe was educated at Rahula College in Matara and played his club cricket for the Sinhalese Sports Club. In 1992 he took all ten wickets in an innings when he finished with 10 for 41 against Kalutura YCC. In 2000 he was forced to undergo surgery on his shoulder in Australia and found it difficult to cement his place in the side upon his return. He worked in administration after retiring, including as the chief selector of the men's and women's national sides in 2021.
