Since his debut in 1996, Rafatullah Mohmand had not missed a single domestic season and he was rewarded with a national call-up at the age of 39 in 2015. Even at that age, he was one of Pakistan's fittest players, possessing extraordinary reflexes. Hailing from Peshawar, situated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan, Rafatullah played for his home side and Habib Bank Limited before representing WAPDA - from where he was picked for the national side.

Rafatullah was close to national selection in 2006, when he enjoyed a consistent run in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy with Peshawar and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the Gold League, but only managed to make the Pakistan A side for a one-day tournament in Australia. In the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, he averaged over fifty in List A cricket but the selection committee never considered him.

In 2009, Rafatullah was involved in a record first-class stand of 580 for the second wicket with Aamer Sajjad, where he finished unbeaten on a career-best 302 not out. For over ten years, he might not have been a stand-out performer but his returns were always eye-catching. He could not do enough to force his way to the top of the list until the 2012-13 season, where he trebled his one-day hundreds tally, scoring 425 runs in six matches with three centuries. But it was his performance in 2015 T20 Cup that finally brought him his place in Pakistan's T20 squad to face England, after he scored 230 runs at a strike-rate of 157.53 that led Peshawar to the title.
