A right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman, C Ganapathy was one of the key figures in Tamil Nadu's revival after the team suffered for two seasons due to ICL defections. He made his Tamil Nadu debut in the 2003-04 season, taking 17 wickets, but a few quiet seasons followed. He started to make his mark in 2008-09, where he emerged as a quality bowling allrounder, helping Tamil Nadu make the Ranji semi-finals. He saved his best returns the following season with both bat and ball, bailing his team out of trouble on more than one occasion. He started converting 40s and 50s into centuries and ended the 2009-10 season with 543 runs at 77.57 and 18 wickets at 24.22. He followed it up with a five-wicket haul for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy final. He was then rewarded with an IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings, but played only one game in the 2010 season. He later joined the India A squad in England as Abhimanyu Mithun's replacement. He bowls with decent pace and prefers to draw batsmen forward with his away movement.
