This pugnacious wicketkeeper batswoman is almost a certainty to keep wicket for India for a few years to come. Playing for one of the best teams in India, Air India, Anju opens the batting. Playing with a straight bat, favours the 'v' between mid off and mid wicket and does not hesitate to take the aerial route. Anju strikes the ball as hard as anyone else in the business. Behind the stumps she is reliable a all times. Almost never flashy, Anju combines sound anticipation with nimble footwork to glove the ball efficiently. Having done well in the Rani Jhansi Trophy, Anju Jain was named captain of the Indian team for the CricInfo Women's World Cup 2000. Although India reached the semi-final and were beaten there by hosts New Zealand, Anju was quite happy with India's performance in the tournament. Personally, she did not have a great tournament, averaging under 16.00 with the bat in eight outings.
