Ralph Legall

Ralph Legall, a wicketkeeper who played four Tests for West Indies in 1953, and C Ramaswamy, who played two Tests for India on their 1936 tour of England, are the two members of a rather exclusive club: they are the only Test cricketers to also have played Davis Cup tennis - Legall turned out for the British Caribbean Island team in 1954 and 1956. Their paths crossed too. All four of Legall's Tests were against India, and Ramaswamy was the manager of the Indian team then.

Born in Barbados, Legall played his domestic cricket for Trinidad, debuting for them in 1947 against British Guiana. A good wicketkeeper but a mediocre batter, Legall got his chance to play at the highest level in 1953 when he replaced Alfie Binns after the first Test. He completed nine dismissals in the four Tests as the series ended 1-0 in West Indies' favour.

Legall's last first-class game was in 1958 before he shifted to England to play in the Lancashire league. He played for Church Cricket Club all through 1960, and is believed to have spent the rest of his life in Canada.
