So that's all we've got for you. Do join us again on Friday to see how this three-match series pans out. For now though, this is Alagappan Muthu going dark
"Felt pretty good, Funny kind of wicket. Didn't feel like I was in at any stage. Forced me to play more conservatively," says AB de Villiers after 89 off 85 (Oh, come on!). He's also the Man of the Match "Mixed feelings. To get them seven and nine down at the start of the powerplay. Expected the bowling to get them out. I thought 230 was defendable but we got a couple of partnerships together. Very happy, can't fault the bowlers' effort with them getting the team nine down, but thinking of the world cup, if we get teams nine down in 35 overs, we need to finish them off. Played pretty good cricket, fighting back from four down to win it. Locals here have been unbelievable, net facilities and food has been unbelievable, absolute pleasure playing here."
"Not too bad, pretty good. Game wa spretty close. We had a period where we weren't far away. Proud to get to 230 after starind down the barrell but the class of AB and JP took them home," Brendan McCullum says. "Rusty, little uncertain of the conditions. Wicket played relatively well. Tennis ball bounce, slower than we realised. Through the top and middle stages, they kept picking up wickets regularly. Boult was outstanding today, starting to flow his Test game into the shorter game. Luke Ronchi was brilliant, disappointed for him not ot get a hundred. Always good to see Dan back, different role today. Looked like he was racing around like a youngster. Couple of days work, get a little more craft into constructing the innings and bowlers will get a little more info and adapt our game better for friday"
5.55 pm It wasn't the most straightforward pitch. South Africa utilised it to have New Zealand in all sorts of trouble before Luke Ronchi played out of his skin to set up a competitive total. And so it looked until AB de Villiers grabbed the match and made it do his bidding. It didn't look all that obvious, there weren't belligerent strokes. There were 20-odd overs without a boundary, and yet South Africa have completed this chase with 11 balls to spare. He had excellent support from JP Duminy, who broke past an edgy start to open up and play some brilliant shots and eventually sealed the game in emphatic fashion. New Zealand's first ODI in Mount Maunganui's ODI goes sour, although the scenery was reliably stunning.
