KRL rout Hawks to climb to top

A round-up of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver League games that ended on November 2, 2014

Group I

Saeed Anwar jr's 113 and a maiden first-class century from Luqman Butt were the pillars of Khan Research Laboratories' thumping innings-and-51-run win over Hyderabad Hawks. The win helped KRL move to the top of the table with a narrow one-point advantage over Pakistan International Airlines.
Anwar and Butt's centuries gave KRL a decisive advantage after their bowlers had pitched in with an all-round effort to restrict Hawks' first innings to 213. KRL then piled on 496 with both batsmen scoring their centuries at a similar pace. Anwar's 113 came off 177 balls with 12 fours and a six while Butt scored his ton in 166 balls with 14 fours and two sixes.
In their second effort, Hawks were decimated by pacer Sadaf Hussain and left-arm spinner Nauman Ali who took four wickets apiece to bowl them out for 232.
Fast bowler Mohammad Abbas' ten-wicket haul was a crucial contribution to Pakistan Television's 226-run win over Lahore Eagles.
The bowler took 5 for 66 in the first innings to give his side an 81-run lead and then wrecked Eagles' batting line-up to dismiss them for 147 in a 374-run chase.
There were also important contributions from wicketkeeper Rehan Afridi, whose 69 helped lift PTV to 294 after they were struggling at 109 for 5 in the first innings. Debutant Hasan Raza's 109 helped the side stretch its lead to leave Eagles a challenging target.

Group II

Despite stumbling from 66 for 0 to 105 for 6 in a 286-run chase, Sui Southern Gas Corporation managed to hold on to a draw against Abbottabad Falcons in Abbottabad.
Falcons' wicketkeeper Waqar Orakzai's unbeaten 138 helped the side score 359 in the second innings, setting SSGC a target of 286. After a solid, 66-run stand between the SSGC openers was broken, left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed and offspinner Inam Khan made swift inroads, quickly reducing the side to 105 for 6. An 80-ball, unbeaten 30 from Mohammad Irfan helped SSGC stave off the challenge and take three points from the match.
Earlier, a five-for from fast bowler Tabish Khan and a hundred from wicketkeeper Saifullah Bangash were the other important performances for SSGC as they restricted Falcons to 223 in the first innings and took a 74-run first-innings lead.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman scored 57 and took 6 for 98 to build on a strong batting performance from Habib Bank Limited which saw them beat Bahawalpur Stags by nine wickets.
After bundling out Stags for 221, Habib Bank took a first-innings lead of a similar margin with as a century Bilal Shafayat and fifties from Aftab Alam, Kamran Hussain and Rehman lead the side to 442.
Although an 85 from Moinuddin and a hundred from Rehan Rafiq helped Stags improve their second-innings performance, Rehman's haul ensured that they could only get ahead by 88 runs. Opener Imran Farhat and Jamal Anwar then chased down the 89-run target in a little over 16 overs to help Habib Bank cement their place at the top of the Group II table.
A high-scoring match between Sialkot Stallions and State Bank of Pakistan, which saw a total of 1063 runs in three innings, ended in a drawon the final day.
Hundreds from opener Bilal Asif and Faisal Khan helped Stallions rake up 342 after they were put in to bat. In response, State Bank slumped to 97 for 6 before a late rally, led by Mohtashim Ali (82) and Kashif Bhatti, who scored 158, lifted the side to 343 despite an eight-wicket haul from pacer Hasan Ali.
Wicketkeeper Ahmed Butt then top-scored for Stallions in their second innings with an unbeaten 106 as they reached 378 for 6 by close of play.
