that's the match! Slower offcutter lands too full on the legs, Dunk tonks this over deep square leg and it lands just beyond the rope with no man protecting it. Patriots win their first match of CPL 2020 by six wickets.
Tridents vs Patriots, 11th Match at Port of Spain, CPL, Aug 25 2020 - Match Result
Patriots won by 6 wickets (with 3 balls remaining)
That's it from us today. Check out Sreshth Shah's report sizing up all the action. For Himanshu Agrawal, I'm Peter Della Penna. Come back in a few hours for the nightcap in today's CPL doubleheader at Queen's Park Oval between Jamaica Tallawahs and Guyana Amazon Warriors. Take care!
Patriots captain Rayad Emrit: "One of our top batters batting straight to the end, Evin scoring 90 runs it's unfortunate he didn't make a hundred but we've been asking one of our guys to stay to the end. Like Jason said, it's not an easy wicket to come in and bash the ball and with Evin there it made it easy for the batters at the end. It was important for [Ramdin and Lewis] to make that partnership. I thought we batted a little slow in the middle but with Evin there we always back him to make up for it. That was important that we don't get new batters in early. Jon-Russ Jaggesar, he's been excellent so far the first three games that he's played. He's been doing the right things more consistently than everyone else. The pitch is not a bad wicket, but it's very difficult for new batters to come in and muscle the ball. Bowlers are going to get rewards here."
Tridents captain Jason Holder: "I felt it was a par score. If we had 5 or 10 runs more it would have been great. In T20 cricket you want guys to keep up the tempo. It wasn't an easy wicket to start hitting on. You had to spend time at the wicket. It's really important in these games to have a set batter going deep. We didn't have one at the back end of the game. I thought Nyeem Young had an outstanding game. Tough luck to him in the last over. That's how cricket is played. The positive for us is he showed a lot of heart."
Evin Lewis is today's Man of the Match: "We needed this win. We went out there and backed our skills. I got a good start for the team, couldn't carry on to the end but we got the victory. We had a bit of a shaky start losing the first three games but hopefully this victory can bring momentum for us to carry on through the tournament."
1.40 pm Yeh feedback commenters talk nah? Ramdin's go-slow approach is excused by the end result as Dunk finishes off the anchor work done by Lewis. The defending champs from 2019 are struggling to come up with a winning formula in this year's campaign.
One shot will end it now. No margin for error from the youngster Nyeem Young.
full and wide on sixth stump, Dunk flays this drive high and deep over extra cover. First time he's aimed for the off side instead of trying to whip everything over midwicket and the ball is timed to perfection 20 yards over the rope.
length ball on sixth stump, Dunk flails anxiously over the top of it. Hope flicks the ball onto the stumps after collecting as Dunk set off initially for a bye before turning back. Not out.
wide yorker, way too wide beyond the guidelines though. Bonus ball.
Huge missed opportunity off the final ball of the 19th from Dunk facing Mayers. Should really be 8 off 6 balls. 9 times out of 10 he would have carted that full toss for 6.
Young to bowl the final over, over the stumps.
slower ball full toss at thigh height on fourth stump, tries to cart this over midwicket but flubs it off a thick edge through mid-off for a single to keep strike.
thigh high full toss on middle stump, mistimes the heave to midwicket but well wide of the fielder to come back for two.
full toss at knee height on fifth stump, Dunk premedidates a reverse scoop and plays this exquisitely over short third man. Straight out of the billiards trick shot manual.
Sohail Tanvir enters off strike. Lewis' inability to stay until the end now brings Ramdin's innings under greater examination under the microscope.
fullish length ball on fourth stump, Lewis can't get under it enough with a skied drive to long-off. Rashid comes in initially before backpedaling and settles under this 5 yards in from the rope to take this in front of his face with palms facing out.
wide yorker toe-jammed out to long-off.
full and wide, driven along the ground to long-off.
Mayers for the 19th. Over the stumps.
offcutter lands on a fullish length on middle, splices this heave off a thick edge through mid-off.
slower ball on the legs, Dunk misses a flick over midwicket and the ball trickles off his pads toward short leg for a quick single.
fullish length ball on fourth stump, skids low as Dunk plays over the top of a heave to midwicket.
wide yorker, can't carve this out through point.
full on sixth stump, driven to long-off along the ground.
length ball angled across Lewis on middle stump, no sweat as he cracks this flat over deep midwicket, 10 yards beyond the rope.
Young returns over the stumps to Lewis.
full on fifth stump, driven through to Rashid at wide long-off, he charges and relays but can't deny the second.
Dunk arrives and enters on strike as the shot was too flat to Walsh Jr to allow Lewis to cross.
short ball on fifth stump tried to pull this over deep midwicket but can't clear the man on the rope. Caught three yards in by Walsh Jr who takes it at head height shuffling right. Ramdin's innings, like all the user feedback comments about his slow scoring, finally ends.
knee high full toss on sixth stump, slammed across the line to long-on.
short on the stumps, pulls this behind square.
