Queensland batsmen maul Victoria

Queensland carted Victoria's bowlers to all corners of North Sydney Oval, setting a new record for the highest score on the postage stamp-sized ground on the way to a 116-run domestic limited-overs victory.

Chris Hartley and Usman Khawaja set the ideal platform for the Bulls, who then let loose through the heavy hitting of Nathan Reardon and Peter Forrest to pile on 114 runs in the final 10 overs of the innings. One Ben Cutting six resembled MS Dhoni's helicopter shot, and demonstrated the unsubtle power of modern bats.

The Bushrangers needed to win to remain in contention for the tournament finals, but a halting start was compounded when captain Matthew Wade flicked his opposite number James Hopes to a handily placed leg slip.

Cameron Boyce then played a major role in further stifling the Bushrangers, his hard spun legbreaks confusing the batsmen on a dry, slowing pitch even though consistent drizzle made the ball slippery. Dan Christian and Marcus Stoinis both fell when trying to belt Boyce out of the ground.

Peter Handscomb and teenager Matthew Short forged a sturdy partnership, but ultimately the pressure of a skyrocketing required-rate allowed the Bulls to close out the match swiftly, Cutting and Simon Milenko sharing the task of cleaning up the tail.
