fantastic finish by Amir as he nails another yorker that Rossouw cannot do much about except dig out into the offside. Karachi Kings are into the final. Multan Sultans will get a second chance when they play the winner of the Eliminator.
Sultans vs Kings, Qualifier at Karachi, PSL, Nov 14 2020 - Match Result
Match tied (Kings won the one-over eliminator)
Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Ilyas's 30-run partnership is MS's highest for the 8th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 24 between Umar Gul and Pollard
7.32 pm: Whew. That brings us to the end of the first half of today's games. What a way for the PSL to re-start. This match had everything almost - good bowling, fightbacks, thrilling twists and a blockbuster finish. The last time we had one Super Over on a double-header weekend, the second game produced two Super Overs. So make sure you don't miss out on our live commentary for the Eliminator between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi.
Imad Wasim: "I have no idea (what went wrong). When Babar got out, I didn't play 14 balls and the other guys kept getting out. We never win easily, we make a twist out of every game but a win is a win. Special credit to Amir (for the Super Over), to me he's one of the best bowlers in the world. The local guys had played cricket for a while but the overseas guys most of them hadn't played. Credit to them for coming here. I think we dropped a couple of catches, so we need to improve that. But we're in final so very happy about that. I want to dedicate this win to Dean Jones. If he was here, he would have been very happy. We're going to play the final for Deano again."
Shan Masood: Credit to Karachi, they bowled really well and put us under pressure. In a playoff game when you put any score on the board, our message was to fight. Unfortunately we'll have to come back tomorrow. We made a lot of mistakes today so the positive sign is that we put up a fight despite making all these mistakes. We always stayed in the game. Tomorrow if we can rectify these mistakes we will be on the winning side. He (Tanvir) has done really well, hopefully we can put up a good show tomorrow."
Babar Azam is the Man of the Match. "This is the beauty of T20, the match can change anytime. We thought we had it won, but until you finish the match, it's not over. In the first innings it was a bit slow but in the second innings, the pitch was good for batting, with the ball coming on under the lights. Whatever cricket you play, you need to keep a positive mindset and know how to switch on. I try to do what's best for the team."
Presentations coming up.
7.20 pm: Karachi looked to be in complete control when Babar Azam was batting, but even though just over a run a ball was needed when he got out, they fell apart a bit. Imad Wasim ensured he dragged them to a Super Over. Multan's innings was held together by Bopara, with Tanvir giving the finishing kick, including 19 runs off the final over. That nearly looked to be match-turning, but Karachi held on.
Sohail Tanvir: I guess we didn't bat smartly. 140 wasn't enough. Credit goes to the way we bowled and fielded, we almost had it. But that's T20. If I talk about my own performances, I think I was spot on. From the new ball to the old ball, I took wickets and was economical as well. We thought today 140 we have given ourselves a chance and can defend it. Unfortunately we ended up on the losing side but this would give us confidence for tomorrow (for Qualifier 2).
7.12 pm: Karachi had it in their hands for large parts, then let it slip, then clawed their way back. What a rollercoaster. You could say they've done it for Dean Jones.
yorker on a fifth stump, he goes deep in his crease but can't connect cleanly once again. This is swiped to long-on and Rossouw is calling for a second. The throw is wide of Walton and he dives towards the stumps to break it but Rossouw has put in his own dive to just about make it. 6 needed off the last ball
connects well with his drive having gone a bit across but it's straight to the man at deep point. Another full ball wide of off, but not too wide that time
that's not too good, with another wide by Amir. This one was even wider outside off
been given a wide but that was good thinking by Amir. Tried to keep it out of Bopara's reach after having bowled a more conventional line earlier
yorker length on a fifth stump, Rossouw stayed still and tried to crash it through cover, but can only toe-end it into the ground and to cover
keeps it back of a length and going across him, Bopara moves across to pull but can't get hold of it and it bounces to long-on
full and wide outside off, he gets an under-edge off an attempted slap, that bounces to the keeper. They manage to scramble a single
Surely has to be Amir to bowl the Super Over for Karachi. And it is him. Who will bat for Multan?
Ravi Bopara, who held their innings together, is coming out, alongside Rilee Rossouw
outside edge taken at backward point. Tanvir keeps it on a length and Rutherford is looking to swing it into the legside but gets a leading edge that is taken comfortably. Karachi have 13 runs on the board.
boom Tanvir keeps it full and straight, Rutherford goes straighter and fuller. Makes room and lofts this straight back over the bowler's head to carry all the way over the straight boundary
one-handed boundary over point. Wide and full again and Rutherford shows his hitting ability, slices it over point even as one hand comes off the bat
caught at long-on Full on the stumps and Sharjeel was targetting the straight boundary, gets a bit too underneath it and picks out the man on the boundary
full outside off, carves it between point and cover by opening the face to the man in the deep
full and wide outside off and this time it's given a wide!
wide of the stumps first ball, and he has a thrash at it but gets it off the toe end to cover. Only one
Sharjeel and Sherfane Rutherford to bat for Karachi. Interesting decision to go with Sherfane. Left-handedness combined with his big-hitting potential maybe
Sohail Tanvir to bowl Super Over
6.42 pm: The match is not yet over but it has twisted and turned its way to a Super Over. Karachi had the chase in control then they stumbled badly. Then Multan had it in their grasp but Imad Wasim has somehow pulled off a Super Over.
finishes with a four to get a Super Over. Imad moves waaay across to be on a seventh stump line and Ilyas bowls it there. He plays a wonderful pick up off his legs backward square leg and finds the boundary to tie the scores.
dot ball as Imad lets it go! He went for the wide outside off one and I think he's lucky to get away with it. The ball was cutting across the tram line as it passed the batsman!
full outside off and he nails the shot, carves it over extra cover for a single
6 off 3. They can't afford a dot ball at all.
full outside off, he was moving across and uses wrists again to try to seep it through midwicket. He's looking for two but will have to settle for one
7 off 4. Imad needs to hit a boundary now. I don't think he can afford to take a single. Long-off is back. Fine leg is up.
straight down deep midwicket's throat! but it has brought Imad back on strike. Amir went for the glory shot, short ball dug into the pitch, not enough pace on it, Amir goes back to pull. Doesn't get a good enough hit and picks out the fielder. But the batsmen have crossed
superb start by the bowler. A bouncer that is on target, has Amir ducking into it and holding up his bat to fend at it. Takes the helmet I think on the way to the keeper
7 for the win. 6 for the Super Over. Amir to face
length ball outside off, and he threads the gap between point and short third man with a finely timed boundary
backs away and punches this over the bowler's head down the ground. Not great connection as it bounces to long-off
back of a length outside off, he makes room to try and swing at it but misses
fuller, punched to extra cover
stunning. Pressure building and Imad just goes back deep and uses wrists and bottom hand to flick this from outside off to over deep midwicket
direct hit from point and Parnell is run out. That was strange running from Parnell, he was just jogging. Good length ball outside off, nicely cut but straight to point. Imad has called him through for the single - right call I think since he needs to be on strike. Parnell just jogs across. The fielder takes aim and shatters the stumps with Parnell yards short.
And just like that, Karachi need 19 off the last two overs. Tanvir will bowl one of them. Who will bowl the last one? Irfan has an over, Ilyas too. But has to be Tanvir for this one you would think. Best bowler bowls the 19th in a close game. And it is indeed Tanvir.
length on off, flat batted to long-off
stump to stump, length ball, punched to mid-off
Wayne Parnell walks into a pressure cooker of a situation. Multan favourites now you would think
he's got him!. The change of angle, the mind games, they work. Tossed up wide outside off, tempting Rutherford into going for the big drive. He gets a thin, but audible, snick and the keeper does well to latch on.
Tahir now going around the wicket
flat and full on a sixth stump line, Imad drives to long-off again
fuller outside off, nicely forward to push this to cover's right
Slip in for Sherfane
fuller outside off, biffed to long off
23 off 18, and five wickets down.
length outside off, punched to point
Sherfane Rutherford. He spent the last two months warming the bench, but seeing Mumbai Indians win their fifth IPL. Karachi need some of that effect to rub off
caught at long-on. Full ball on the stumps, he made some room to loft this straight. Doesn't get it quite of the middle and he can only pick out long-on. Not perhaps the best choice of shot when you need about a run a ball
