tossed up, bit of room and Morgan cuts, gets a bottom edge, it beats Wade, running away behind the stumps - that'll do it, they run the two needed, and England have won by six wickets with a good, solid handful of overs to spare
England vs Australia, 2nd ODI at London, Jul 01 2012 - Ball by Ball Commentary
7.10pm: Victory at The Oval - England's first over Australia at this ground since 1997 - means Alastair Cook's side take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Australia's total looked a little soft and doughy, their batsmen having not quite done enough (despite George Bailey kicking on, his crawl to 26 off 60 balls epitomised their struggles) and England executed a textbook run chase on a good surface. A whiff of controversy will cling to Morgan's successful review - Hot Spot wasn't conclusive, so the decision shouldn't have been overturned, even though he seemed confident he'd hit the ball - but Bell and Bopara were excellent and England should have got there even without their lucky No. 5. Ravi Bopara was named Man of the Match and his run-a-ball knock was just the sort of composed-but-lively innings Australia couldn't muster. There's life in the series yet, however, and the tourists will need to regroup before Edgbaston on Wednesday. We'll be back to bring you full coverage - until then, keep working on rotating the strike. Cheerio
round the wicket, turned on the front foot to midwicket
Bopara has been putting pressure on the fielders to good effect all innings but finally ran out of luck. Is there going to be a dramatic final chapter here ...?
tossed up, tip and run to mid-off - and Brett Lee's direct hit sends Bopara back! That's a shame, he should have been there at the end, but a matchwinning [not yet, not yet] top knock from the Essex man
length ball outside off, tapped to point
Doughy to finish things (in all likelihood)
back of a length, on the stumps, turned to the man at short midwicket
length ball outside off, dabbed short of point
One blow will do it now ...
pitched up on the stumps, drives in the air over mid-off, into an unpatrolled area of the pitch
full, slightly wide, Morgan has a slash at it but misses
on leg stump, whipped behind square insouciantly by Morgan, who's ticking along like a beaut now
on the stumps, turned through the leg side
McKay replaces Hussey
So, England closing in on 2-0. [lights fuse, puts fingers in ears] The whitewash, which would make England No. 1 in all three formats, doesn't look quite such an outlandish suggestion now, does it?
length delivery outside off, tickled through the cover region to the man in the deep
length ball outside off and Bopara swings a meaty pull shot through midwicket, it was briefly in the air but was travelling pretty quickly
good length ball outside off, pushed towards cover
"You say the DRS overturning of Eoin Morgan was an error of application and not failure of technology?" says Sukesh. "Wait a minute, isnt DRS there to fix errors of application in umpiring in first place. So what is next, DRS for DRS?" No - just umpires being taught to use it better
defended back to the bowler and Lee nearly hits Bopara with a wild throw at the stumps, Wade does well to prevent overthrows
back of a length, hooked through square leg
full and outside the line, driven through cover
Another change, with Lee back on. Still looking for that 381st ODI wicket, to draw level with Glen McGrath
quicker ball outside off, opens the face and runs this one down to third man - Australia just can't plug the leaks any more
defended on the front foot outside off
flighted, down on one knee and paddles over his shoulder for a couple
pushed through on the stumps, defended
driven down the ground to long-on
pushed through outside off, steered to short third man
Hussey back on for a roll of the arm
