Sylhet vs Victorians, 3rd Match at Dhaka, BPL 2019, Jan 06 2019 - Match Result
Victorians won by 4 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
4.22pm That's all from Match no. 3. In 30 minutes, we'll have the toss for the game between Khulna and Rangpur. Till then, on behalf of everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, this is Sreshth Shah signing off.
4.11pm We should have the presentation soon, too.
Steven Smith, the winning captain: "We've made it hard for ourselves, but Shahid finished the innings really well. I think 140 was about par, but they bowled well and fielded well. Think the bowlers did really well, exploited the conditions well. Few things to still work on. Tamim is very experienced, and knows these conditions well, and hopefully he gets better and better for us."
Shahid Afridi is the Player of the Match. He says, "good decision from captain to bowl first. The team combo is really good, and winning the first game of the event is always good. I was worried a bit since I didn't play anything after T10, and I'm trying my level best to do well. The main thing is that we have some very good local players. Overseas players are good everywhere. Always good to gel and stay united."
David Warner, the losing captain: "We didn't know what the wicket would do. We had to assess early. Always challenging when you lose some wickets, but we did well to almost defend that. We just told the guys to keep backing themselves and bat the 20 overs. If we get to 120-125, it could be par. We were always in for a fight, and we drew things back a little bit. About the run-out: there's always going to be some miscommunication. It's something we can forget and move on."
4.05pm Comilla Victorians win by four wickets! That man, Shahid Afridi, keeps his cool and hits the winning runs. His 39 was so crucial today, and it's not often these days that we see his batting do better than his bowling. Smith beats Warner today, but boy, this game became interesting. A nice battle between bat and ball, and this is how we like our T20 cricket. Down to the second-last delivery, but Comilla Victorians stay cool in the end.
Shoaib Malik: "Nerves were okay. We have Shahid Afridi, our back hand, and when you're chasing short totals, then you need to hit in the first six overs, because it's tough to hit when the ball gets slow. Pitch wasn't batting-friendly, but that's no excuse. You've played everywhere, so goal was whatever target there was, to play accordingly. Tamim's gameplan was to bat till the end, and as we know, Afridi is a great finisher."
Nirmal: "What a match!! that's why i love low scoring thrillers"
