Oh dear! He shouldered arms there, only to hear the death rattle. It landed on a length just outside off and skidded in. The batsman left it alone. Mistake. Clatter!
Pakistan vs Kenya, 6th Match, Group A at Hambantota, Feb 23 2011 - Match Result
Kenya started with so much promise but they have imploded very quickly. Pakistan have won their first game without any fuss.
Please hang on for quotes from the post-match ceremony.
Umar Akmal: Early on we lost couple of quick wickets but later the batsmen had good partnerships. We were confident. The score was too much for the Kenyans. We have been enjoying Sri Lanka so far. I would like to thank the crowd for supporting us. There are lot of Pakistani fans and we hope that they will continue to support us. "
The ceremony will begin shortly.
Kamande: "We gave lot of extras. May be because the guys were trying too hard ... We are not performing at both areas. Today, I thought the bowling was 70%. I didnt bowl and let down the other three bowlers. We are playing Pakistan after a long time. It's a difficult situation for us. The batting .. I don't know .. we didn't go for the score. We will try to encourage the boys it doesn;t matter, go for the score."
Shahid Afridi : We should be more positive in the batting. It was a slow track but we should have started more positively. You should take a chance after 5-6 overs to disturb the line other wise they will keep bowling on the same line if you don't take any chances. The next game, we will come harder. It was good to see Shoaib Akthar bowl really well." Asked about his own bowling, Afridi says with a smile, " I am a bowler first, then a batsman!"
Umar Akmal is the Man of the Match: "I have played this kind of knock after a long time. I am happy that the seniors like Waqar, Afridi all backed me. I have practised hard and long and Shahid bhai told me if I continue to work like this runs will come. There is always pressure, so you can't take any additional pressure on yourself. I am enjoying my fielding, been training well. I will take this form in the upcoming games. Not only in the next game but in all games that Shahid bhai will offer me."
That's it from us. Good bye and good luck.
Dave responds to Pete Higgins' comments: "Yes - I think so. A colleague and I discussed this today actually. Might raise the collective standard a bit, but more importantly I think the Champions Trophy should become for the top 4 Assoc. and bottom 4 Test sides, to make more regular high-level competition for them."
Pete Higgins: "Is there a case for assembling a team from the best players of the Associate nations, along the lines of the Unicorns in EWngland last season? Obuya and ten Doeschate would be first choices."
leans forward to stab this to the off
And then they were one. This one rolled off the pad to the on side. Confusion. Chaos. The striker rushed down the track but his partner wasn't going anywhere. There is a direct hit at the striker's end - shouldn't he have lobbed it safely to hands of a fielder close to the stumps? - and there is no batsman in sight near that end. Gone. Terrible.
outside off stump, left alone
leans forward to defend to the on side
dropped by Afridi! Very very tough. IT was chipped well to the left of him and he dived full stretch to his left but couldn't hold on. It brushed his fingers
Wicket no 5 for the captain! Obuya's entertaining knock is over. Afridi teased him with a flighted delivery and he couldn't resist going for the big hit but he couldn't clear long-on. 5 for 16! ooh la la!
slower, outside off, almost goes on with the arm, he is beaten, pushing inside the line
Whackity whack! A reverse sweep this time. He slapped it hard but there is a deep point in p--lace
Obuyaaaaaaaa! What a charming innings this has been. Flamboyant. He rushed down the track and heaved it over long-on
tossed up full and he crashes it to the straight boundary. Fierce bottom-handed hit.
moves down the track and pushes it back to the bowler
leans forward to nudge this to the on side
Swethan: "Gutted that Ajmal is not in the team today. His doosras would have bamboozled the kenyans.. host of points lost from my fantasy team!"
leans forward to defend. Two slips and silly point in
Hasan: "Afridi should bring back Shoaib Akhtar and let him bowl his remaining 5 overs to give him as much match practice as possible - Hopefully he takes a few wickets and gains some confidence for bigger games. "
Googly! Wicket no 4. It broke back in from outside off, skidded past the forward prod and hit the pad in front of the off stump. Afridi - 4 for 16
skids outside off, the batsman is beaten on the cut shot
pushes this to the on side
Dropped by Misbah. It was dragged towards long-on,. Misbah rushed in and dived forward but couldn't get his palms under the ball. Very tough chance
fullish delivery, Obuya lofts it to the straight boundary. 100 up.
