Damp outfield prevents play on day one

Despite clear skies throughout the afternoon in Voorburg, play on day one of the Intercontinental Cup match between Netherlands and Scotland was called off

Despite clear skies throughout the afternoon in Voorburg, play on day one of the Intercontinental Cup match between Netherlands and Scotland was called off. Steady rain from the weekend as well as brief morning showers resulted in a damp outfield, which was deemed unsuitable by umpires Peter Nero and C Shamshuddin.
In particular, the bowler's takeoff and landing area at the Paddock End was the primary reason the umpires felt play could not begin despite cool and sunny conditions at Voorburg Cricket Club. After a final inspection at 4pm, play was called off for the day.
"They were a bit concerned about the takeoff area for the seamers running in," Netherlands captain Peter Borren told ESPNcricinfo. "It's a little bit damp and not an easy thing for them to get dry. There's been an awful lot of rain in the last 10 days and I think it was a pretty remarkable effort to get the ground in the condition that it is. I suppose it's the umpire's discretion and they've deemed it unsuitable for play and it's something that we just have to deal with. It's a shame but we've still got plenty of cricket in the next three days."
Should play start on time on Wednesday, 104 overs will be possible, eight more than the originally scheduled 96.
