back of a length outside off, stands back and punches this past mid-off and into the boundary to close out the win.
9.18pm: That's that for this game. Dead rubber yes, but a significant one. Virat Kohli bows out as T20 captain. Nice moment at the presentation when he explained why Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat ahead of him. India were anyway overwhelming favourites for this match but they've lived up to that to give their support staff a smiling farewell. It's the end of an eventful, and mightily successful, road for Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar. The next time India play, we'll be in the Rahul Dravid era. Which is as good a note as any to bid all of you goodnight.
Virat Kohli: Relief firstly (emotions). As I said it's been an honour, but things have to be kept in the right perspective. This was the right time for me to manage my workload. It's been six-seven years of intense cricket every time we take the field and it takes a lot out of you. It's been great fun, great bunch of guys and we've really performed well as a team. I know we have not gone far in this World Cup, but we have had some good results in T20 and enjoyed playing together. It's a game of margins, T20 cricket. You talk about two overs of cricket with intent in the first two games and things could have been different. We were not brave enough as I said. We are not a team that will give excuse of tosses.
(Departing support staff) Big thank you to all those guys, they've done a tremendous job all these years keeping the group together. Great environment with them around, they were an extended part of our bigger family. They've contributed immensely to Indian cricket as well. A big thank you to all of them from all of us.
(Intensity) That's never going to change. If I can't do that I will not play anymore. Even when I wasn't captain before I was always keen to see where the game is going. I'm not going to stand around and do nothing.
(On not batting at 3) Surya didn't get much time, it's a T20 World Cup and I thought it might be a nice memory of him to take back. As a youngster you want to take back some good memories from a World Cup.
Gerhard Erasmus: Quick turnarounds between games so we haven't been able to really soak in the experiences. Only once we go back we'll be able to realise we played an awesome level of cricket. We can take a lot of positives individually and as a team we'll take this experience as a whole. Good foundation for us if we want to make the next step. (Next year T20 World Cup) that's another awesome thing for us to look forward to. We've probably inspired the next generation of cricketers in Namibia.
Ravindra Jadeja is the Player of the Match: As a bowler, I did enjoy bowling today. The ball was dry so I enjoyed bowling with a dry ball. Some balls were turning, some were going straight, so that's also a trick, the batsman has to keep on guessing. (on Ashwin) I'm enjoying bowling with him, I've been playing with him since 10 years. He's doing wonderfully with the white ball, did it in IPL also. Virat has been wonderful with the captaincy, and I've played with him for 10-12 years too. I always enjoyed his captaincy. He's positive and aggressive that's what you want as a player. (On the departing support staff) They have done a great job as supporting staff for 7-8 years and we've enjoyed being with them.
Arun Prakash: "Thank you Ravi Sastri. Many might see you as a thorn in this garden, but seldom they know that you did all the work for the flower to get blossomed. Joe Root taking this Indian team as an inspiration to his next ashes series just sums up your whole career. Beating Aussies in their home ground with 7 of your main players getting injured is not an easy task. Go with your heads high!"
Jasdev: "Namibia have definitely punched above their weight, having beaten NL, IRE, and SCOT. Also, fairing pretty decent against the top sides. Kudos to them!"
8.55pm: India have finished this chase off clinically. It doesn't count towards qualification, but it's a happy note to end on for the team, as it bids farewell to Shastri, Arun and Sridhar - as well as Virat Kohli the captain. The bowlers had reined Namibia in, keeping them to 132 with Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah particularly good. Rohit and Rahul then laced boundaries one after the other to ensure there would be no hint of wobbles. Namibia can be very happy with the show they've put up too - not just in this game but all World Cup long. They've played with great spirit and will surely emerge a better team in next year's World Cup for this experience.
back of a length on leg stump, looks to flick it, rolls off pads to short fine leg. Scores level.
Anil Kadam: "So this is the end of Dhoni's carrier as Mentor" --- maybe, maybe not. Nothing to stop India having him for the 2022 and 2023 World Cups.
full toss on the stumps, thumped through cover
fuller on the stumps, driven to long-on to raise fifty for Rahul. Another typically pretty innings, full of great strokeplay
too short, rocks back to pull, not quite timed perfectly though it's in the gap between long-on and deep midwicket, so they get two
fuller, driven to long-off
gets some drift into the batter, who's looking to drive inside out. Ball hits pad
tossed up outside off, and he's opened the face to drive it through point. Great timing on it again
Robert: "I'd love to see an associate franchise league and each team would be allowed to field 4 players from test playing nations. I suppose the salaries would be high for the revenue brought in. Will add to my list of 'If I were a billionaire I'd...'"
another good short ball, this time SKY goes for the pull, gets a top edge with the ball near throat height, but it lands safely, well short of deep square leg
dismissed. Slower ball, too short outside off, he rocks back and whacks it across the line, pulling powerfully to the deep midwicket boundary
sharp bouncer. SKY was moving across and Trumpelmann dug it in short, batter had to drop his hands and forego the pull shot
length ball coming into him, moves across and swivels to pull to fine leg. Came off the bottom half of the bat
lovely straight drive, lofted over the bowler's head, and into the straight boundary. Bat turned in his hand a bit but he still timed it well
fuller outside off, squirted to deep point with a front foot drive
Ramzz: "Is suryakumar wearing a black band? why?" -- all the Indian players are Ramzz. To honour the memory of Tarak Sinha, a celebrated coach.
good length outside off, drawing him on the front foot, opens the face to steer to short third man
length on off, comes on the front foot to drive to long-off
tossed up wider outside off, making him fetch the sweep, he tries but can't connect
fuller outside off, goes to sweep hard, gets a top edge onto helmet that rolls towards gully
brings out another one of his favourites, the little dink to paddle-scoop it fine. Moved across early, fullish ball outside off and he picked it expertly to the fine leg boundary
slightly short of a length outside off, waits on it and cuts in front of point
Sahan: "It seems amazing that a team like Namibia can manage to find 4 left arm seam bowlers who all can be bowling in the same match"
Over 16 • IND 136/1
India won by 9 wickets (with 28 balls remaining)
