and South Africa have won by a run! Its a good ball, full and straight as it should be, Oram backs away and swings it along the ground down to long-on, he and Styris run two, then as Parnell fumbles the collection Styris charges down for an utterly nonexistent third run and gets shooed back, by which time Smith collects the ball from cover and does the rest
South Africa vs New Zealand, 10th Match, Group D at London, Jun 09 2009 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Whew. What a finish. South Africa remain unbeaten and top Group D. They made a modest score but rallied superbly in the field. Brendon McCullum got a half-century but never threatened to step on the gas. Whenever New Zealand started to form a stand South Africa snapped it. South Africa held their nerve and bowled really well, applying and keeping the pressure on New Zealand. A pleasing win for them.
Roelof gets the Man of the Match award. A good day at the office for him.
So thats it from all of us. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. Thanks for tuning in. Bye for now!
New Zealand need four from one ball. Can they do it?
oh oh ho! Four to fine leg! Parnell bowls it full, Oram swings and gets an inside edge well wide of Boucher and with fine leg up thats a boundary
oh he's dropped it and Oram gets two! Parnell serves up another full toss, Oram clubs it over mid-off, Kallis runs in and dives full stretch but lets the ball slip out, how crucial is that now?
full toss on leg stump but Oram fails to put it away, just swinging it past midwicket for a couple more, but what he needs is a boundary from somewhere
well bowled, again Parnell looks to take out leg stump, not where he wanted but it cramps Oram for room and he clips the ball past midwicket and gets two
aims for leg stump but cannot get it, Styris heaves and gets an inside edge down to fine leg
New Zealand need 15 from six . They managed 12 from the last one. Tension, tension. Parnell will bowl the last over. The crowd is on edge. Styris on strike.
full and wide, Styris chases it and gets a thick outside edge down to the man doing duty at third man
low full toss which Styris swings off the lower half of the bat down past mid-on, runs hard and wants the second and gets it too even as AB gives chase and doesn't gather well
good ball, full outside off stump and it beats the bat as well
Smith beckons fine leg and midwicket closer. Third man goes back.
another wide ball, slower one well outside off stump, whats Steyn doing?
Three men in the circle ...
full and straight, more of a length this time and Oram swings past midwicket
safest place to score runs! Steyn bowls a good ball, a yorker-length ball just outside off stump, beats the bat and then kicks up over Boucher for four leg byes, thats amazing
loose delivery, wide full toss outside off stump, Oram leaves it be, Boucher collects and then makes a face as the umpire signals wide
pitches it up just outside off stump, Oram gets bat on ball and pierces the gap at cover, runs hard and gets back for the second, good running from him and Styris
Smith has a long chat with Steyn. South Africa have done excellently here. Game on.
full on middle and off, Oram makes room and drives to long-off
smart delivery from young Parnell, gets a yorker just outside off stump which Styris can only dab to cover and set off for
now he goes full and wide and Styris squeezes it off the toe end of the bat just into the gap at backward point and runs hard to come back for a second
bounces him outside leg stump, Styris pulls and misses, so close to being called a wide and I'm not sure why it wasn't, didn't make contact with glove or anything
much better from Parnell, a good yorker that Oram digs out to cover
full toss just on off stump and Oram backs away to thump that excellently past cover and it beats the man in the deep too, how crucial is that shot?
Oram takes guard. Parnell comes back.
