van der wath makes room and slices a low full toss towards long-off
ICL India XI vs ICL World XI, Final at Hyderabad, Apr 15 2008 - Match Result
The 'home' team, India XI have fittingly won the inaugural ICL World Series. The champions run a lap of honour around the field.
It was that spell by Syed Mohammed which won them the match. World XI were coasting while Martyn got going but struggled once Mohammed plugged the scoring, cramped the batsmen for room and ran through his overs. The script was very similar to their last league match against the Pakistanis when the left-arm spinners pulled things back after a solid start. Ali Murtaza didn't have the best day in the office but it didn't matter. The World middle order looked scratchy and the pressure mounted as the Indians showed great commitment in the infield to cut off crucial runs. Steve Rixon's delighted. He's the winning coach in both ICL tournaments this season.
Here's Chris Cairns at the post-match presentation: "Martyn played really well. The ground staff have laid out some really good wickets for the series. Congrats to Satish and Steve Rixon. We lost it when the spinners came on. It has been a great tournament."
G Vignesh is the Man of the Match: "I've been getting out after making starts and I ensured I hung on longer today. Me and Khaleel made sure that we'd stick around and play to the merit of the ball. I'm happy with the way I bowled."
Ibrahim Khaleel is the Man of the Series for his 147 runs, 2 catches and 4 stumpings: "Me and Vignesh wanted to play out the first six overs at least and it paid off. We got a good start. I feel on top of the world for being part of the winning team in both tournaments. It's all thanks to Steve Rixon."
Here's R Satish: "We didn't think 140 odd was enough but the spinners bowled very well. We were worried when Martyn got going but the boys really brought it back. The crowd too has been wonderful."
The confetti falls on the ICL India XI.
Thanks guys for following the coverage. The ICL is here to stay. The commitment has been excellent from all the players and the crowds have really taken to it.
We hope you enjoyed the coverage. On behalf of Raghav and Pradeep, this is Kanishkaa signing off. Cheers!
This game's done
fires that on a yorker length outside off, he makes room and drives to long-off
13 off 2 balls
fired in full on middle and leg, he makes room and drives to long-on
steps down the track and clubs that over midwicket, the ball appears to head over the rope but just falls short of the rope
Dropped: he hooks and gets a thick top edge, Ahmed runs in from fine leg, he appears to have it covered but misjudges the ball
fired in full outside off, he makes room and carves this on the up to long-on, they pick up a couple
full outside off, he pushes it firmly to deep cover
he gets off the mark with a blistering six over deep square leg, the lands a few rows back, they need more of that
Atapattu steps down the track and tries to loft over deep extra cover, Vignesh holds the length back and he tamely scoops it down Mohammed's throat at deep extra cover
Atapattu fails to go for the big blow and the ball lobs off his pads and nearly trickles onto his stumps
poor line and length, he pitches it up outside off, he swings across the line and clears the head of midwicket
low full toss outside off, he swings across the line and places it to long-on
plays across the line and the ball hits him on the pads, misses the legstump, they appeal
pitched up on middle and leg, Atapattu is well balanced at the crease as he lofts through the line and clears deep midwicket
aims for the big hit but the ball lands on a yorker length and he places it to the offside
holds the length back on middle and leg, he gets across and whips it down to long-on
45 off 2 overs, that's tough
makes room and just manages to place it wide of gully
good stuff there, fires that on the stumps and he shuffles to whip it off, not enough timing to beat the infield
