Tossed up full, driven through cover for a couple and Australia win at the MCG to take a 1-0 lead in this five-game series. Hazlewood the hero, and he had good support from the rest of the bowlers. Mitch Marsh and Head then killed the chase off pretty early, so even the late drama thanks to the spinners and Bumrah never had Australia sweating
Australia vs India, 2nd T20I at Melbourne, AUS vs IND, Oct 31 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.50pm Right then, Australia will go to Hobart 1-0 up, but it will provide an opportunity to India to come back, especially with Hazlewood now set to leave the series. Today was a game India will want to put behind them quickly. Join us in a couple of day's time for the third T20I. For now, it's Abhimanyu signing off on behalf of Alex at the ground and our fantastic scorers Chandan and Vairavan.
10.45pm Josh Hazlewood is the player of the match. Here's what he has to say: "Ball feels like it's coming out nicely at the moment no matter what format I'm playing. So just trying to put the ball in the right areas and see what happens. Everything feels in a good place and ready to go [for the Ashes]. I think there's no better place to learn than here. Nathan does his job every time, bowls some of the tough overs. So we'll have a lot of quicks fighting for spots soon. Going to head home tomorrow. Still have time to prepare for the Shield Game and then head to Perth for the first Test."
SKY: "The way he bowled in the powerplay, if you're four down in the powerplay it's difficult to recover from that. Well bowled to him. Abhishek has been doing this for quite some time now. He knows his game and his identity and he is not changing it anymore and hopefully he sticks to it and plays many more knocks like this for us. I think we need to do what we did in the first game. Bat well when batting first and then come out and defend."
Marsh: "It was a good toss to win. Bit of moisture and Hoff is a great bowler when there's something in it. Wanted to take a couple of wickets early. [On the bowling unit] I think since the last World Cup we have tried to really build a squad of 25 players who can, if required, come to the World Cup and feel a part of the team and be connected to everyone. [On crossing 2000 runs and his form] I was a bit nervous but got going in the end. Head took the pressure off. Should be a good three games to come."
10.40pm Australia complete a comprehensive win, even as Abhishek Sharma's valiant effort goes in vain. He looked like he was batting on a different surface as Josh Hazlewood steamed through the Indian top order. Gill, SKY, Tilak -- Hazlewood removed three key batters, and then the rest of the bowlers took care of the rest. Once Marsh and Head took Australia past the 50-mark in the fifth over, the rest of the chase was but a formality. Don't let the six wickets fool you, it was Australia in control of this game pretty much from the first ball of the game and right through to the end.
Another dead ball called. This time SKY was still talking to his fielders
Flung full outside leg, Stoinis tries to sweep but can only hit it into the ground
Kuldeep to bowl out now. Umpire shouts dead ball just as Kuldeep was about to bowl. Think Kuldeep cramps up a little because of that sudden stop. He spotted two men fine on the leg side -- deep fine and leg slip
And that's anti-climactic! Length ball outside off angling in and Bartlett calmly knocks it down to the off side
Xavier Bartlett to ty and defend the hat-trick ball. And as Bumrah readies to bowl, Suryakumar Yadav comes in and calls the fielders to close in. Good fun. Two slips, gully, and five fielders well inside the circle
What a corker! Yorks him first ball! Rocket of a yorker on middle at 137kph and Short falls short as he tries to get his bat down on time. And all of a sudden, Jasprit Bumrah is on a hat-trick!
Full outside off, hint of shape away as Owen drives and the finger goes up ever so late! Owen has a word with Stoinis before reviewing. That was a very late decision by the umpire. Owen had a big swipe at it. And Snicko confirms a thin edge! Bumrah picks up a wicket
Swatted down the ground and mid-on is able to keep it to two. Back of length delivery wide of off and Owen can't get enough power behind that to make it go for four
VK: "My guess is still on! 12.3 overs, game finishes! comon stoinos! " -- boundary needed off this ball for your prediction to come true
Short outside off, pulled into the ground and out to deep midwicket
On a length around off, 133kph, blocked by Stoinis
With Australia five runs away, India will bowl out Jasprit Bumrah
Walloped over midwicket! Massive hit! Gets down on one knee and slog-sweeps this tossed up delivery into the second tier
Tossed up full outside off, Stoinis jumps out and hits it along the carpet to long-on
Slip and leg slip in place
Tossed up on leg, Stoinis manages to work it fine on the leg side with a paddle
Marcus Stoinis strides out
Quicker one, and Inglis misses it altogether as he tries to work it off the back foot. This time, India review. But I think that pitched outside leg. Could be close on that front, actually. I take my words back! That was pitching in line! And it's three reds on ball-tracking! Hitting leg stump too! Inglis has to go. Good review, and Kuldeep picks up a second
And now he's hit in front as he misses a reverse-sweep. This was tossed up on middle and spinning back into Inglis. Did he get bat on that? India don't review
Full around leg, lovely reverse-lap from Inglis, very fine on the off side
Tucked through square leg
Crowd today at the MCG: 82438
Only slightly short and it's pulled away on the bounce to deep square leg
ramesh: "Can we have Jemmima and Harman please...matter most urgent.." -- Don't think they'll be able to help much now with the ball
A touch short on middle and coming in with the angle, Inglis goes back and pulls it out to deep square leg on the bounce
Tossed wide of off, slowed down to 78kph, sliced away through covers for a couple
Big shout but not given! Owen has a swipe across the line to this wrong'un and misses and is hit on the back foot. India review. No bat. And ball-tracking shows it going over leg stump! India lose the review
Varun skids this wong'un past Owen's attempted cut. Samson is quick to gather and take the bails off, but Owen's back foot was firmly placed behind the crease
Over 14 • AUS 126/6
Australia won by 4 wickets (with 40 balls remaining)
