Everyone in the dugout rush onto the field! Nehra keeps it on the stumps and Maharoof takes the risk of backing away and slicing it hard square of the wicket on the offside, there was enough power on that to beat the fielder who tried to boot it away, had he intercepted it the batsmen would have taken two comfortably
Daredevils won by 5 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
Dinesh Karthik's heroics, and Maharoof's towards the end, have given Delhi a shot at the semi-finals. Things started slipping after the fourth wicket fell at the tenth over. After two wickets fell off successive deliveries, Karthik went on the attack and starred in two 40-plus stands to take Delhi home. Maharoof played another ice-cool innings under pressure and he's emerged as one the tournament's leading allrounders. The real winner today was Karthik. After under achieving with the bat despite getting several opportunities, he picked the right moment to play a match-winning innings. Do join us for the post match presentation.
Tendulkar: "All credit to Karthik. We were off to a good start. We discussed a score of 200-210 but we lost momentum in the middle. We lifted ourselves in the middle of the tournament and we can do it again. Thanks to the crowd for supporting us. If we reach the semi-finals, we hope you will all come to Mumbai."
Sehwag: "Full credit to Karthik and all the boys. Ashish Nehra bowled a good ball and got me out. I sent a message to the rest in the middle of the innings and wanted one guy at least to bat till the end."
Dinesh Karthik is the Man of the Match: "It was a great team effort. I'm happy my form came at the right time. I thought if we can get a boundary an over we can get there. I wanted to tell Tiwary to go for the boundaries instead of risking singles but I don't think he heard me. Maharoof was fantastic."
I've been vilified left and right for an unfortunate typo. All changed. It was an honest mistake. Apologies.
Delhi are the first team to play out all 14 games and they're now third in the points table. They aren't in the semis yet. Chennai and Mumbai could still go through. Chennai need to win their next game to seal their spot while Mumbai have to win their next two. Period. If one of these two teams fail in their mission, Delhi go through. So all that's left for Delhi is to wait and watch. This victory has only made the tournament more interesting.
Thanks for joining us today. Thanks for the mails and timely reminders! Two games tomorrow. The cricket never stops. Cheers!
2 off 2. The Mumbai thinktank get together
if only you could hear the crowd! Nehra overpitches on the pads, he makes room and lofts through the line and almost clears the deep midwicket rope
this is getting more tense here! He makes room to slice through the offside but he misses, good bowling by Nehra
6 off 4, sudden tension sets in
fires a yorker length delivery on off and middle, he drives past the bowler but it's only a single to long-off
There's a brief holdup in play. Karthik's exhausted. Perhaps the excitement has got to him.
takes a couple of paces down the track and lofts it towards long-off
makes room to slice through the offside, he misses
takes the aerial route over extra cover this time and the ball lands safe in the middle of the outfield
bangs it in short this time, Karthik makes room and attempts the upper cut but it doesn't come off
beats him this time, there was width outside off but he missed the glance completely
shot! Nel bowls it full and straight, Karthik stays at the crease and scoops it elegantly offering the full face of the bat, that's a straight six to cherish, and that's his fifty as well
Nel returns for his last over, he bowls it full outside off and he pushes it softly to extra cover
16 off 12
pushed wide of point
gets forward and pushes it wide of cover
he gets better and better! Karthik takes a couple of paces down the track and picks it of his pads, he scoops it over midwicket and Nehra dives in despair to cut it off
he makes room and cuts with the turn to sweeper cover
Karthik's finally playing to his potential
gets big turn outside off, he makes room and cuts hard square of the wicket
shot! He makes room and creams a fullish delivery past extra cover, Uthappa appears to have it covered but the ball just sneaks past him as he dives, not the best day in the field for all the Mumbai players really, Delhi should win this from here
makes room to biff it past the bowler but he misses it this time
adjusts the line closer to the batsman, he makes room and mistimes it back to the bowler
