What a topsy-turvy game. But a game like the one tonight is a pleasant reminder on why the IPL is such an amazing tournament. Each team has the ability to win a match on their day, and it's the platform where heroes are made. In 2020, it was Rahul Tewatia for this fixture. In 2021, it's Kartik Tyagi. That's all from us at ESPNcricinfo. Kings will have a hard time recovering from this loss. Royals one step closer to breaking into the top four. See you tomorrow!

Presentation coming shortly. A reminder that Rajasthan Royals have jumped to fifth on the points table

It's remarkable. Kartik Tyagi is the Player of the Match. "Feeling happy. I was injured during the India leg of IPL 2021, and when I recovered the tournament got cancelled. Very happy to get the chance today. I have spoken to seniors for the last few years. Everyone has said that game can change anytime. I knew I have the death-overs skills."

Winning captain Sanju Samson: "Somewhere we had that fight left. We knew we had some special bowlers. Kept Mustafizur's overs for the end. Tyagi was confident with his yorkers, especially wide yorkers. Executed them well against the new batters. And we had top fielding plans for every batter, we have planned till the last batter. We were happy with our score, on this wicket that was a good score. We are a better bowling/fielding team too. We could've won the game early if there weren't drops early on."

Pneuma: "Gosh, what can I say! No words. Everytime Mayank plays well, he sees these losses. He should have remained till the end and finished it off."

10.19pm Fewest runs defended in the final over:

4 runs by Munaf Patel for RR vs MI, 2009

4 runs by Kartik Tyagi for RR vs PBKS, Today

KL Rahul, losing captain: "Tough one to swallow," he says while putting on the orange cap. "We need to see how we can handle pressure better. It's happened to the best in the game. Tough one to swallow that you haven't learnt from your previous mistakes. We bowled decent lengths in the first six. Unfortunate that edges got it away from us. But we pulled this back nicely with the ball."

Sid: "This is what happens when you don't play universe boss on his birthday"

Evin Lewis, 21-ball 36: "We didn't get the score we wanted. 200 would've been par. Wanted to keep it simple, but in the last five overs we couldn't get the bigger score."

Dinuk: "Tyagi's last over may be the best last over balled in IPL in defending less than 5 runs."

Dasitha : "Did that just happen?? "

Eyd : "RR va PBKS has definitely lived up to the name of being the new El-Classico!"

10.09pm How about that? We said when Kings needed 8 in two overs that they have lost games from similar positions before. It's what happened once again as Mustafizur and Tyagi delivered two top overs in the last two. Even with four balls left, Kings had a 99.2% chance of winning the game. It dropped to 90% after 19.4, 62% after 19.5 and of course 0% after the 20th.

The result now proves how important that Sakariya fielding effort at short third man was in the 19th over. It saved three runs, the difference in the end, and just how this fixture was Rahul Tewatia's fairytale night last year, it's Kartik Tyagi who is the unlikely hero today.

What will worry Kings the most is that today is the fourth time that a century stand from Rahul-Mayank have resulted in a loss. Kings dominated the chase for 19 overs, and then choked against the opponents' most inexperienced bowler. Sensational from Tyagi, conceding just 1.

19.6
Kartik Tyagi to Allen, no run

Kartik Tyagi, you hero! From being a teenager who won games of cricket at the U-19 World Cup in 2020, he has done a near impossible on the IPL field today. Full, wide, and Allen can't connect with the drive. Through to Samson and Royals win by two runs after bowling five dot balls in the final over A whirlwind experience, repaying the faith his captain has shown tonight.

Allen on strike.

Super Over loading? Kings need 2 to force the Super Over.

W
Kartik Tyagi to Hooda, OUT

make that three in 1! Tyagi takes another wicket. Full and wide outside off stump. Looks to drive away from his body, and it takes an edge to Samson. The new batter will face the last ball.

Deepak Hooda c †Samson b Kartik Tyagi 0 (2b 0x4 0x6 3m) SR: 0

Three off two! Royals ahead?

19.4
Kartik Tyagi to Hooda, no run

full and wide outside off stump. Beyond the tramline too. But the umpire says its a legal ball since Hooda had walked across to the off side

Hooda. His 24-run over will be forgotten by the Kings if he can take them over the line.

19.3
W
Kartik Tyagi to Pooran, OUT

guided....to the keeper! Overpitched just outside off. Pooran opens the bat's face to run it down to third man. But all he has done is poked it straight to Samson. Kings need 3 off 3. And it's a new batter facing the next delivery.

Nicholas Pooran c †Samson b Kartik Tyagi 32 (22b 1x4 2x6 35m) SR: 145.45

3 needed off 4.

Manu Ajmani: "Good to see Pooran amongst runs. He was in a bad place during the first phase!"

19.2
1
Kartik Tyagi to Markram, 1 run

full on off. Goes for the extravagant slog through midwicket, but inside edge takes it to deep backward square leg

Four off five.

19.1
Kartik Tyagi to Markram, no run

full toss just outside off. Driven towards the off side but can't beat the fielder at cover

Kings need one boundary off the final over. Will they do it in ones or will Markram look for the glory shot? Young Kartik Tyagi to bowl. Can Kings give Gayle a perfect 42nd birthday? Long on, long off are back.

low yorker outside off stump. Drilled to long on for one

18.4
1
Mustafizur to Markram, 1 run

just past Samson! Back of a length outside leg stump. Slower ball too. Markram backs away to cut but takes an edge going across. Samson jumps to his right to take a catch, but all he can do is glove the dropped chance. However, Sakariya at short third man moves to his left to stop the four, saving his side three runs for sure

18.3
1
Mustafizur to Pooran, 1 run

slashed to third man who is very very fine. Wide yorker attempted, and he gets enough in the bat to get an edge. Mustafizur bowling wide of the crease again. But it's a fair ball, not a no-ball

18.2
Mustafizur to Pooran, no run

wide yorker. Delivers it from wide of the crease. Pooran bends his knee to drive low through cover point. But no connection

18.1
Mustafizur to Pooran, no run

back of a length, wider outside off. Pooran throws his bat at it to cut behind square. Misses out

Eight to win in two overs. Kings have lost games in the last two seasons from such positions before though. What can Fizz do in his final over - the game's 19th?

low full toss on middle. Driven to mid on, where Tewatia's quick work sends Markram back. Direct hit at the bowler's end though, and that allows Pooran-Markram take the single anyway

17.4
Morris to Markram, no run

attempted slower ball gone wrong. Ends up as a full toss that Markram ducked under. Goes over Markram's back but legal ball called. Because the ball was dipping so sharply. Morris has his hands on his head since he thought Markram could've been bowled!
