Leinster vs Reds, 17th Match at Bready, INTER-PRO T20, Jul 03 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
1pm - Bad news I've afraid, the rain has been on and off throughout the morning and it's pouring down steadily now. Unfortunately there is no chance of the match starting before the 1:30pm cut off so the game has been abandoned. This means that both team pick up two points each.
I'm hopeful that the strong breeze will blow the rain clouds through, so that the ground has time to dry out before the second of our double headers. As the Warriors take on the Knights. The game is due to start at 3:45pm, so please join me then
Until then, this is Justin Smyth saying goodbye from Bready
Welcome everyone to the final day of the third Cricket Ireland IP20 festival. It's been a great couple of days so far in Bready, where there has been a lot of Cricket played as the weather for once has played ball and mostly the rain has kept away. This morning the Leinster Lightning are going to be taking on the Munster Reds. It's Justin Smyth here, and I'll be without throughout the day to keep you updated on what's happening out in the middle.
After seven bonus point wins in a row, this could be the day that the Lightning win the title. Going into this morning they sit 16 points clear of the Northern Knights, and if they can pick up a bonus point win in this game, then they aren't going to be caught this season. They were even able to rotate their squad yesterday, giving Little and Delany a rest, and still took the Warriors apart. Will be interesting to see if they decide to bring the two speedsters back in
A heavy loss to the Knights yesterday means that the Reds still haven't picked up a win here in the North West and are adrift at the bottom of the table. They were taken apart by the Stirling/Adair blitz, and their job won't be any easier today against the impressive Tim Tector and Chris De Freitas opening partnership for the Lightning. An upset win today against the Lightning will at least give them lots to talk about as they make the long journey south after the game.
Both teams will want to finish the festival in style, and we will need the weather to play ball. There was a few showers around yesterday, which affected the morning game. Today is forecasted to be the most unsettled of the three days, I guess that we will have to wait and see. The covers are still on now as there have been a couple of rain showers blow through. No news if the toss is going to be delayed or not, although I will keep you updated with the news
