Full and fast on off this time, and Chandimal capitalises! Crunches it through the covers for the winning runs. An unconvincing chase, but deserved - just about - in the end.
Galle vs Stars, 3rd Match at Colombo, LPL, Dec 06 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Stars won by 4 wickets (with 15 balls remaining)
And with that it's wrap. Thanks for joining me, see you tomorrow!
Dhananjaya meanwhile gets Player of the Match award for his star turn of 2 for 18, including two straight maiden overs. Really set the tone for the match.
David Wiese named Man of the Match. Dilshan called it: "DA: David Wiese Mom? Without those two sixes, I don't think Stars would have won this."
So Colombo get over the line after more than a little scare, first thanks to some world class throttling from their spinners, and then their deep batting coming through. Those late hits from Wiese proved crucial in the end, but don't discount the importance of having someone like Chandimal hanging about. He may get a lot of flak for his relatively poor strike rate, but in scenarios like this he's just the man you need.
Galle will take heart from the fight they showed, though this will be a rude reality check after the ease with which they had won their opening match. They will also wonder what might have been had Ben Dunk hung around a little longer.
Oh he didn't know much about that! Thushara pitches it short, and it's the slower one. Chandimal goes for the pull and pulls out, but gets a top edge that flies over the keeper.
very wide down leg from Thushara. The keeper is the star there to keep it down to just the extra.
Full and slow. It's on leg, and it gets a glancing pad through to the keeper.
Thushara back into the attack....
flighted again. Pushed to the offside.
Tossed up again, and Seekkuge will clip that on the leg side all day long
tossed up and full. Chandimal has little trouble driving this down to long-off.
Short of a length and pushed away on the offside
length ball, worked away on the leg side
And the timeout has done the trick! Wiese looks to carve Tharanga over cover, but the man on the boundary does exceedingly well to come an complete a good catch.
Strategic timeout now and what Dinuk sent quite some time ago still holding true: "Dinuk: It seems the game could go either way"
It's the leg spinner from the lefty, and it spins back quite a bit from well outside off. Wiese cuts it but is cut off by the man at short third.
Round the wicket now...
Short and on off stump. It's knocked wide of mid-off for a couple.
Arm ball here, and Wiese just knocks it around the corner for a single.
That's sloppy. Too wide, and the batter all too happy to leave it alone.
Too short this time, and Wiese can cut this away
Oh that's well bowled. Angled across Wiese, but beats both the batter and the stumps.
It's pushed through and defended well.
Noor Ahmad returns...
Wiese looking more confident now. Short and not all that wide, but Wiese goes back and cuts it away for a couple.
Bang! Wiese goes again, and he gets this much better. Full on off stump and hoisted over cover.
Wiese gets a hold of this - just about. Too short from Tharanga and Wiese swivels back and pulls it over midwicket.
