it's a four over cover to finish, but Kings don't mind it. They win by 15.
Jaffna vs Warriors, 7th Match at Colombo, LPL, Dec 08 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's it from us from the seventh LPL match. We'll be back on Friday with another double header. Take it easy, till then.
Thisara Perera, winning captain: "It was a really good partnership with Avishka. He was batting really well. We did pretty well."
Angelo Perera, losing captain: "Because Rovman was hitting the ball so well, we were expecting the game to go closer. He's going to Pakistan to play for West Indies, but we're getting Ravi Bopara as a replacement."
Player of the match is Suranga Lakmal for his 1 for 25 off three overs. "I know Powell is a hard hitter. I know what my strength is. I bowled the straight yorker. I've been working hard over the past few days."
John: "Safe to say Lewis cost them the match?" Bit harsh to blame a loss on a single innings. But it didn't help. In Lewis' defence, he tried very often to hit out - he just missed.
Another tight game involving the Warriors. This chase was spearheaded Powell, who hit a ridiculous 61 off 19. But Lakmal came back towards the end of the innings, and took his wicket with an excellent yorker, to produce what was probably the biggest play of the game. Who would have thought 181 would be even a conceivable total off 14 overs though. Great fight from Kandy Warriors.
low full toss again, ankle height. It's a top edge, but oh, it's dropped. Lakmal gets under it but spills it.
low full toss on off stump, humped to long off for a single
yorker. Bhanuka backs away and tries to hit to off, but Lakmal follows him and Bhanuka misses. They run a bye to Gurbaz though
fullish, almost a yorker. Captain Angelo Perera turns it around the corner to square leg, but he's out trying to get a second! He needed to get back, but it's too good a throw from deep square leg. Warriors just have too much to do in this last over, you suspect.
Lakmal to bowl the last
He's out, finally. And importantly, Seales has not conceded a run off the last three deliveries. This is slow again, and a length ball outside off. Lewis tries that mow that to leg, but gets it off the top half of the bat. It goes high and deep midwicket gets under that one. End of a somewhat tortured knock in the context of this match
slower ball, and Lewis is still struggling. He tries to smash that over leg and misses. This has been a poor innings
holes out! Big wicket. Mendis is down the track to this slower ball. Tries to launch that over deep midwicket, but he's through it a little early, and is caught well inside the rope. He seemed the likeliest to get Warriors close, out of the batters who were in
slower ball, but that's down leg again. Mendis backed away, and Seales went too far down leg.
slower one outside off, Lewis doesn't try too much, just shovels that towards wide long on and gets a single
down the track to this slower ball, and Mendis drags this to deep midwicket, and gets only a single.
Mendis with a lovely hit to square leg. This is an attempted yorker on the stumps. Mendis gets the leg out of the way and swings it square on the legside. Super hit. Kings still under pressure.
wide waaaay down leg.
31 off 12. Warriors need a few big hits. Here's Seales.
a repeat. Yorker again, follows the backing-away Lewis, and though he jams his bat down, can't get a connection
yorker. The batter backs away, but Lakmal follows him, and gets it in the blockhole. Lewis can't connect.
Lakmal hits Mendis on the pads from around the wicket, but that's sliding down leg I think. Batter had tried to hit this fullish delivery to leg but missed. Jaffna Kings have reviewed this/b>, though. It's an optimistic shout. Almost impossible to get an lbw from that angle, and it's missing the wickets comfortably.
reverse sweep straight off from Kamindu Mendis. Gets a connection and it goes fine of short third man for four
Kings now will fancy themselves.
Lakmaaaaaal! He's got the big wicket. The big, big, big wicket! This is a superb yorker, pitching on middle, crashing into leg. Powell could probably have stayed on his feet for that, but gets low to try and slog-sweep that almost, and it's too good a ball for that shot. knocks leg stump over. What an innings this has been though. 61 off 19 balls. The best of the tournament so far.
whipped, helicopter-like. This is full and on the stumps, struck hard to deep midwicket. Malik comes across to cut that off athletically
38 needed off 18? Yah, this is very much on. If Powell is there at the close, Warriors probably win.
