Hampshire Hawks defeat Durham Dynamos at Chester-le-street in a day
night encounter in the National League Division Two with Robin Smith
scoring 88 not out out of a total of 165 for 3 in in 39.1 overs. This
is Robin's highest score of the season.
Hampshire were chasing a Durham total of 161 for 8 in 45 overs. Shane
Warne also contributed for Hampshire by taking 2 for 19 and later
scoring 29 runs when he came in at No 3 and partnered Smith to put on
65 runs for the second wicket. This was Hampshire's fourth win in four
matches against Durham this season.
Jon Lewis who was made captain for the rest of the season just ahead
of the match, chose to bat first. The skipper who took the mantle from
Nick Speak was the top scorer with 40 not out. He held the innings
together after Durham were 105 for 6 after being at 81 for 2 at one
stage. The other batsman to make a useful contribution for Durham was
opener Michael Gough who made 36, his highest score in the
competition.
All the Hampshire bowlers bowled tidily except for Alex Morris who
gave 52 runs in his 9 overs.
