Northern have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Tanvir seals the contest with a six! Junaid dugs in short and Tanvir didn't need second invitation, slams a pull off the backfoot and it lands over long-on.
Balochistan vs Northern, 26th Match at Lahore, National T20, Oct 09 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Northern won by 5 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
With this win, Northern have climbed to the top of the table and made it to the semifinal while Balochstan are languishing at the fifth spot with six points.
Congratulations to Northern and commiserations to Balochistan who end up on the losing side after an exhilarating contest. Balochistan put up a competitive total of 185 but were let down by their bowlers as Amad Butt bled plenty of runs in his spell and Junaid Khan conceded 15 in the last over.
Abdullah Shafique played a blistering knock of 73 off 44 balls while Imam-ul-Haq continued on his merry way and thumped a brisk half-century. In reply, Northern's Ali Imran laid the platform with his magnificent 64-run-knock that was laced with three fours and five sixes. Thereon, Zeeshan Malik hit a valiant half-century that kept them in the hunt. An enthralling game today that regaled the fans.
'I worked really hard during the off-season which is helping me on the ground. If your fitness is good then you are able to perform well. I have tried to keep myself composed and I didn't let negativity come to me despite not getting opportunities earlier. Positive vibes from my family helped me and I was keen on grabbing the opportunity today,'' said Player of the Match Ali Imran.
This is Rvel Zahid saying goodbye.
Precious dot! Shortens his length, hits the deck hard and gets spongy bounce as the ball whizzes past the bat to the keeper
Half-volley, picked early and panned to the rope, with an open face to beat the field at cover-point
Zips it in quicker but lands short again, flexes his muscles and tugs it away, deep square scurries through and collects it on one bounce
Smothers this through backward point, leans back and times it sweetly to the boundary. That's a great start for Northern
Play and a miss! Back of a length, angled across off, he goes for the pull and is nowhere near the pitch of the ball. Northern are staring into the abyss, this is a tough ask now
Umaid gets his man! Sheds another important wicket as Aamir shuffles across off stump to tonk it over midwicket but didn't get the elevation and gets caught at deep by Amad Butt. Umaid is once again putting up an impressive show
Shorter length, angled into middle, he went for the pull too early as the ball went past the bat to the keeper
A well-disguised short delivery, he went for the pull and mistimed it completely, fielder came charging in, his eyes lit up and he plops it after getting his fingers on it. It just bursts straight out of the hands.
Pulls his length back, sixth stump line, throws his bat at it, gets a thick outside edge and it dribbles away to third man boundary
Dropped short, wide of off, he leaves the hanging willow outside off, got undone by lack of pace
Pitched halfway down with no pace and Imam accepts the gift at mid-off, he has taken some brilliant catches tonight. The ball got big on him and he was in no position to play, just got stuck on the pitch
Goes full and straight, he forces it down to long-on, that's a good comeback from the bowler
Pitched up outside off, he shuffles across and guides it behind square on the leg side, no chance for fine leg to cut that off. He is quick to latch onto anything loose.
I get a feeling this is going right down to the wire
Inverses his stance and plonks it behind square for a much-needed boundary. He has got a good head on the shoulders
On a length, whizzing away outside off, firmly tapped to cover and they hustle and bustle for a run, sharp throw but he made his ground in the end
Amad gets a timely scalp! Goes full just outside off stump, he got the toe-end of the bat and handed a simple catch to Imam at mid-off
Pitched up on fifth stump line, flashes hard and it dribbles away behind square on the off side. Junaid has nailed his yorkers and brought his experience into play
Serves up a low full toss outside, slaps it down the ground, finds the fielder at backward point who makes a tumbling stop
Full length, wicket-to-wicket stuff, closes his bat and turns it to the leg side
