Short ball, dug into the pitch and he rocks back to hook that way, ends up getting a blow on his helmet and that's the end of the innings as Qalandars outgun Zalmi by 40 runs
Qalandars vs Zalmi, 15th Match at Lahore, PSL 2023, Feb 26 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Thank you for joining us today. This is Rvel Zahid signing off on behalf of Sudeep Poojar.
"We practised for three days in the nets and planned we won't give away wickets in the powerplay so we can put up a big score. We were able to execute our plans today. We were looking for 160-170 knowing we have the bowling resources to defend but the way Abdullah played, I mean whole credit goes to him because he made it easy for me and when the ball got older, it became easier for me to hit as well. Our team's combination is great so there is not much pressure on us and we bat deep and I try to play my natural game," says Player of the Match Fakhar Zaman
"The way we started, we did well in the first three overs but after that, the batters put us under pressure. We lost it in the first six overs. When you are chasing such a big total, you try to keep the run rate in control. Saim Ayub batted well, he has been in very good form but we need to improve our bowling. We gave away too many runs. If you do not execute your plans well, the batters will keep giving the charge and attack. We need to correct our mistakes as soon as possible," said Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam.
Lahore Qalandars were ruffled early on with the bat but once Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique started to cut loose, there was no stopping them. Babar Azam kept rotating his bowlers in vain as nobody could provide him with breakthroughs as the partnership blossomed and the home team put up an imposing total of 241. The enthralling batting show from the reigning champions started off the Lahore leg of PSL spectacularly and we knew Peshawar Zalmi would have to bat out of their skins to chase this. They came close to the end but with the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, who picked up a magnificent fifer, Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan, it was a tough ask keeping up with the asking rate. Fakhar Zaman has been declared player of the match for his spellbinding 96 run-knock that was laced with 10 sixes and three fours
sanyia Mukhtar: "Although PZ lose this match but they bat really well,in second innings scoring 200 is not that easy"
Hamza: "How many blinders are the Lahore players going to take today? Too good!"
kashif Manzoor: "Everybody talking about big guns Shaheen ,Haris and Rashid. But this kid Zaman is beauty too."
Anish: "Why do you play out of form Rajapaksa in place of in form Shanaka who can contribute with ball as well. "
Goes for the yorker on middle stump, he lofts it over mid-on and didn't get the timing
Fuller length delivery, he looks to thwack it down the ground and can't connect properly
Play and a miss! Good length and slanting away in the channel, threw th kitchen sink at it but cannot get behind the line, another dot
Just mere formalities left now as he lobs on a length, kisses the pads and gets rolled over to square leg region, mixing it up nicely
Talat starts off with a slower delivery on a length outside off, he mistimes the pull and gets beaten
Goes full and keeps it tight around middle and off stump line, he defends it down the ground
There you go, Shaheen picks up a sensational fifer! Back of a length, nibbling away in the corridor, he wafts and edges it through to the keeper. What a fine spell this has been from Qalandar's captain, he has led from the front, he hasn't allowed them to get off the hook in the last few overs and picked wickets at will
Crikey! That was pounded hard over midwicket for a six! Manufactured pace for himself and pumps it for a six, solid connection
Length ball, aiming for the top of off, he plonks it all along the floor to long on
Stumps uprooted! You miss, I hit! Fires in a thunderbolt on a length on off stump line and Shaheen produces magic again on the same venue where he lifted the maiden PSL title last year. Can he get a fifer?
Pacy low full toss, biffed down to mid-on's right
Back of a length, sliding down leg as he follows the batter who was way outside leg stump, Saad gets a faint tickle and that's enough to earn a boundary behind square on the leg side
Slower on a nagging length and line, he loses his shape while attempting a pull, connects with thin air
Banged in short on middle stump line, he rocks back and goes for the pull, gets a top-edge that flies over the keeper for a boundary
Fires in a toe-crushing yorker, dug out to long-off, there is not much you can do as a batter when the bowling is this good
Goes full and straight, he presses it down to long on for a run
Goes for the yorker, tailing down leg, bunted away to the leg side and the bat is damaged, this is the second time it has happened in the day
Dug in short, width on offer, crunched off the backfoot and Rashid Khan leaks a boundary at deep backward point, Shaheen is not amused, it bounced awkwardly and spun, misjudged by Rashid
Fumble at deep midwicket region by Zaman but he recovers well and pings a sharp throw, this was pitched up on the pads and whipped away into the leg side
Over 20 • PZ 201/9
