Derbyshire and Durham were in danger of relegation to the second
division at the end of the first day's play at Derby. Twenty wickets
tumbled in one day but Alan Smith, an ECB pitch liaison officer was
satisified with the pitch and there is not going to be a repeat of the
Surrey v Derbyshire match when Derbyshire were docked eight points for
a pitch which was substandard.
Earlier Simon Brown removed Steve Stubbings, Michael Di Venuto and
Luke Sutton reducing Derbyshire to 57 for 5. Then it was left to Rob
Bailey (54) and Dominic Cork to lead a recovery as they put on 81 in
17 overs. Derbyshire eventually made 167.
In reply, Durham were soon in trouble as Kevin Dean took the wickets
of Jonathan Lewis, Michael Gough and Paul Collingwood in two overs and
finally ended with figures of 6 for 52.
Derbushire saw through one over from Brown to end the day's play.
