full at leg stump, slams it across the line, would've been four if he got it past midwicket....but he hasn't! Straight to Misbah! What scenes! He puts the old barrier behind the ball, lobs it slowly back to Sami...who misses it, for crying out loud. But it doesn't go too far behind and he scampers behind, picks it up, comes back in and clips the stumps. Rossouw didn't even attempt the second.
United vs Gladiators, 17th Match at Dubai, Feb 24 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
11.45pm Have you managed to catch your breath? I haven't. Never quite know with this game. Geez. That was some capitulation from Quetta. They're still rooted at the top of the table but this was a scare. Islamabad bowled a tight two overs in the end after being lackluster all evening. Sarfraz has had his first big heartbreak as leader - is this the game that brings doubt into an otherwise confident batting line-up? Or will they be happy it happened before the knockout stages? Who knows. Who knows anything, anymore? Not me, that's for sure. But I will try to give it another shot. Join me for the early game between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. A huge fixture that. The result there will set the tone for the final qualification spots - of which two are remaining now.
For now, good night. And remember not to take out-of-the-box decisions for the next 12 hours. They can be lethal if they don't work out.
Misbah: Cricket is a funny game. When you think the game is over, this can happen. We were in the hunt. You never know when it's 5-6 in the last over, because all it takes is a couple of dot balls for the batsmen to try and go for the big one. Credit to Raees and Sami for bowling well. We were nowhere near the game till the 18th over. We're happy to win this and I think now we're on the way. Hussain Talat was also a big plus to us. He looked really good on debut.
Sarfraz: Didn't think this would happen. Sami bowled really well. That's cricket. It was our fault. We didn't take it easy but Sami bowled well. Out set batsmen fell and that's what put the pressure on us. We'll try to win and get the momentum into the play-offs in the next match.
Sami: Wasn't thinking too much, was hoping they make mistakes and a new batsman would come in. I worked out what to bowl - to hit the length because it was skidding on. Hopefully I'll have many more awards.
11.35pm Mohammad Sami is the Man of the Match.
Rahul: "If he clipped the stumps then that should be run out right? I'm sure would've ran for the second one o.O" --- He did not.
Ahad: "How important was that LBW decision against Pietersen in hindsight, game changer!"
Atif: "Great over by Sami but don't forget the second last over by Raees. @ runs and Sarfaraz's wicket."
Anisur Rahman: "Can't understand Sarfrazs thinking, why did he send a bowler (Anwar) instead of a jenuine batsman in Mahmudullah ? Just doesn't make sense"
Saaib Uppal: "149/1 and needing 17 runs off 19 balls, go on to lose the game! What a day of collapses!"
11.25pm Oh dear me. Complete brain implosion from Quetta in the end. 130 run partnership in a chase of 165, Mahmudullah in the hut, Perera in the hut, Nawaz in the hut and out came Anwar Ali. They will not forget this. That's a lesson in throwing a match away. Islamabad win by one run and they're through to the play-offs. Birthday boy Sami bowled that last over. He won't forget this either. I'll tell you who will, though - Anwar Ali, who conceded 51 off four overs and was thrust into a pressure situation for no reason. 2 off 5 for him. Gotta feel for him.
Islamabad get through to the playoffs with a win. Perera has come out. Non-strikers end, without a helmet. Same field
low full toss outside off, tries to club this, bottom of the bat to long-off, Ali comes back and puts in a dive...but it's a direct hit! It looks out! It is! Third umpire confirms the absolute foolery of Quetta Gladiators who now have to get 3 off the last ball. Smith with the throw
third man comes in, mid-on goes back. No deep midwicket
oh dear, where have the brains gone? Back of a length outside off, wild heave across the line, misses it
Sarfraz specifically called for Anwar to come out. Will this backfire on him?
back of a length at middle, jams it out nervously to midwicket who could've run him out with an underarm throw at the non-strikers. But Badree is moving slowly and doesn't even pick it up as Anwar dives frantically
short and wide, steps out, slashes at it and misses again!
Bad ball, should've been put away
short and wide, slashes hard, beaten
5 off 6. Sami will bowl the last one
low full toss at leg stump, punched to long-on
low full toss at leg stump, punched back to the bowler
Kapil: "Can't get over that two 4s missed by Haddin while keeping. 8 runs at this stage changes the course of game"
slower ball, good length outside off, waits and dabs it late to third man
full at off stump, dug out to point who shies at the stumps at the non-strikers and misses. Would've been close
Anwar Ali is promoted
back of a length at off stump, goes for the pull but hits it high. Poor shot. Flies towards Talat who fumbles but holds on this time on the second attempt after running in from deep square
slower ball, good length at off stump, pushed back to the bowler
full at off stump, drives to mid-off, puts in a dive, gets up immediately and runs again as the throw has missed the stump and flown out to fine leg
back of a length at middle, the pull is the easiest shot for Rossouw. He goes for it, rolls towards deep square leg...who has let it roll in between his legs. That's young Talat
Atif: "#Throwaway for Shehzad. #throwaway for Afridi. When are these people going to learn to finish a game. Do the work and throw it away. They should see the game through."
good length at middle, front foot defence
full at off stump, inside edge catches his pads right in front of middle stump, rolls to point
short at middle stump, pulled in front of square and between deep square and deep midwicket
Quetta like throwing a couple of wickets away immediately after a big partnership...because they can.
good length, fired down the leg side
but this partnership will not even put on a run. Full at leg stump, clears the front leg and tries to launch this over long-on, but he puts in a nice jump and takes it Aussie style, comfortably
That was the highest partnership of the tournament. The previous was also from Quetta and involved Rossouw who has just walked in
he's running in celebration even before the umpire has lifted the finger. He's also the only one appealing, but isn't going to be embarrassed. Back of a length googly at leg stump, Pietersen walks across and is trapped in front of middle. Why didn't anyone else appeal? Was there bat? KP isn't happy, so there might have been. We'll wait for the replays...replays show that would've gone above leg stump.
