Shaun Marsh guided Western Australia to the brink of a first-innings lead after Mathew Inness pillaged Queensland's highly-regarded lower order to finish with 5 for 38. Marsh had 71 at stumps with Luke Pomersbach on 52 as the Warriors closed the day at 3 for 227, one run short of Queensland's total.
The Bulls began the day in a strong position at 5 for 220 with Jimmy Maher on 111. Ashley Noffke, who is fifth on this season's Pura Cup run tally, was on 34 and they also had Andy Bichel padded up fresh from his 125 against the touring Sri Lankans.
But Inness turned the game in sharp new direction when he claimed 4 for 1 from 34 balls as Queensland lost 5 for 8 in an eventful morning session. After Jimmy Maher edged Steve Magoffin to slip without adding to his total, Inness bundled out Noffke and three of his team-mates, leaving the Bulls all out for 228.
Things became less hectic after that, with Chris Rogers (47) and Justin Langer (42) setting up a strong Western Australia reply. Marsh and Pomersbach continued to settle the Warriors into a solid rhythm, adding an unbeaten 89 for the fourth wicket.
