Bains, Prashant tons lift Himachal Pradesh

A round-up of the Ranji Trophy Group C matches on October 31, 2015

Himachal Pradesh 259 for 3 (Bains 114, Chopra 101) trail Tripura 285 (Bose 95, Chauhan 3-55) by 26 runs
Scorecard
Himachal Pradesh's openers Ankush Bains and Prashant Chopra struck centuries and shared a 210-run opening stand to put their side within 27 runs of a first-innings lead against Tripura in Dharamsala. The hosts finished on a strong 259 for 3 despite three quick wickets by Rana Dutta towards the end of the day.
Both Bains and Chopra scored at a brisk pace, their 210-run stand coming off 50 overs at a rate of 4.17. While Bains struck 11 fours and a six in his 153-ball 114, Chopra scored 101 off 166 deliveries with 14 fours and a six.
Earlier, Tripura's lower order notched crucial runs to lift their score to 285 after they began the second day at 223 for 7. Udiyan Bose, who was batting on 95 overnight, was dismissed in the first over but the last two wickets added 61 runs between them to boost the side. This included a tenth-wicket partnership of 51 between Dutta (24 off 46 deliveries) and Abhijit Sarkar (32* off 48 deliveries).
Goa 141 for 2 (Asnodkar 67*, Quadri 2-42) v Jharkhand
Scorecard
Only 53 overs of play were possible on the second day of the Ranji clash between Goa and Jharkhand in Jamshedpur, with a half-century from Swapnil Asnodkar lifting the visitors to 141 for 2. After the entire first day was washed out, Goa, opting to bat, began brightly as the openers Amogh Sunil Desai and Asnodkar put up an 84-run stand. Legspinner Samar Quadri helped Jharkhand claw their way back into the game with the wickets of Desai and Sagun Kamat, but Asnodkar remained unbeaten on 67, with nine fours.
Hyderabad 113 for 2 (Agarwal 57, Rohit Sharma 2-33) trail Jammu & Kashmir 460 (Manhas 150, Ian Dev 83, Ahmed 5-92) by 347 runs
Scorecard
Jammu & Kashmir's lower middle order built on Mithun Manhas' opening-day century to help the team make 460 against Hyderabad in Uppal. J&K, who began at 331 for 4, were driven forward by Parvez Rasool's 75, and a handy 48 from the No.8 batsman Ram Dayal. Left-arm medium-pacer Anwar Ahmed was the pick of Hyderabad's bowlers, taking 5 for 92, while CV Milind and Sudeep Tyagi picked up two each. The hosts lost Danny Dereck Prince early in their reply, but recovered through a 76-run partnership between Tanmay Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari. Medium-pacer Rohit Sharma eventually got rid of Vihari, but Agarwal remained unbeaten on 57 to lift Hyderabad to 113 for 2 by stumps.
Saurashtra 264 (Barot 66, Khalid 5-74) lead Services 254 by 10 runs
Scorecard
Chirag Jani led a lower-order rally that helped Saurashtra eke out a 10-run lead on the second day of their match against Services in Palam. Saurashtra's openers, who resumed from an overnight score of 19 for 0 stretched their partnership to a solid 91 before Avi Barot was dismissed for 66. Saurashtra, however, lost their next five wickets for 39 runs as legspinner Muzzaffaruddin Khalid and medium-pacer Diwesh Pathania ripped through the middle order. A 48-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Jani and Kamlesh Makvana took the side past 200 but Services clawed back with two quick wickets and looked good to take the first-innings lead. An important 33-run partnership between Jani and Saurya Sanandiya for the ninth wicket ensured Saurashtra moved into the lead before being dismissed for 264. Jani was dismissed for 47 by Khalid who took 5 for 74, while Pathania finished with 4 for 72.
