Ranji round 4, day 4: Andhra draw despite Bharat's incredible 94

By Shashank Kishore

Andhra run out of time

They were within 35 runs of a stunning win but Andhra have run out of time, which means Uttarakhand take three points. And that brings us to the end of this round of matches. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Do join us for a lot more as we go along.

Will Bharat's heroics be enough for Andhra?

It's been a tough year for Andhra's KS Bharat. He's not only lost his Test berth to Dhruv Jurel, but the road back up seems tougher than ever before, especially with Rishabh Pant having regained full fitness following a serious car crash.
Bharat's fall has been soalarming that he doesn't find himself even on the fringes anymore. And so with plenty to do, he's embarked on another Ranji season, where he's trying to build on what Vihari has done with Andhra.
And it's with Vihari that he's orchestrated a late fight on the final day at home against Uttarakhand. His 136-run stand after Andhra were in trouble at 140 for 4 lifted their hopes and took the fight into the final hour. But Vihari and Bharat's dismissal, for 94, in quick succession has significantly tilted the scales Uttarakhand's way.
Andhra need 39, Uttarakhand need 4 wickets. The light is fading fast in the south east.

Harsh Dubey takes 11 as Vidarbha make it 4/4

Harsh Dubey, the Vidarbha left-arm spinner, picked up consecutive five-wicket hauls to help his side record their fourth straight win of the competition. This gives them a massive lead on top of the Group B standings. They've got 25 points and a foot in the door to the knockouts. Last year's finalists, Vidarbha buried Himachal under a massive first-innings deficit that earns them a bonus-point win. Along the way, Dubey has crossed the 50-wicket mark in only his 11th first-class game. Both his five-fors in first-class cricket so far have come in this match.

Chandigarh topple Delhi

Chandigarh have posted their third win in four games to top Group D. Their latest, against Delhi, entailed making light work of a tricky 203 chase. They've achieved it with nine wickets to spare after openers Arslan Khan and Shivam Bhambri put together 130 to lay the foundation. There was just about enough time for Bhambri to bring up his second first-class hundred and remain not out.
The loss leaves Delhi at the fourth spot. They fought hard to limit Chandigarh's lead to just 48 courtesy Yash Dhull's seventh first-class hundred. Then in the second innings, Dhull made a sturdy half-century to give Delhi's bowlers something to defend. It just wasn't enough in the end.

Mulani leads Mumbai's march to victory

At BKC, Mumbai have wrapped up a comfortable bonus-point win over Odisha, with left-arm spinner Shams Mulani picking up 11 wickets in the match. This bowling effort from Mumbai has been all the more remarkable because they decided to enforce the follow-on despite bowling for 94.3 overs in the first innings. They had to bowl 72.5 overs in the second innings to complete the win. Credit to the team management for going for the kill.
Mumbai jump to third in Group A with 16 points, a point behind J&K. Baroda currently top the group with 19 points.

Have Bengal been very conservative?

In Bengaluru, Bengal look set to take three first-innings points against Karnataka. The result is a massive dent for Mayank Agarwal's team, who will have just one outright win in four games. Bengal don't massively benefit from the three points either, they need an outright, and so you wonder if they could've been a little more adventurous to try and dangle the carrot and set Karnataka a target they would've liked to go after, which would've then opened up a possibility of a win.

Jalaj Saxena finishes with 11-for

Kerala have beaten UP with a bonus point to consolidate their second spot in Group C. It's their second win in four games, orchestrated by that man again, Jalaj Saxena.
Earlier in the round, he became the first player in Ranji history to achieve the double of 6000 runs and 400 wickets during the course of his 29th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket that skittled Uttar Pradesh for 162 in the first innings. Then Kerala opened up a 233-run lead before Jalaj got stuck right in, picking up six wickets - his 30th five-for - as UP have been shot out for 116 on the final day in Thumba.
9 Number of times Jalaj Saxena has picked up 10 wickets or more in a match in first-class cricket

Results so far: Haryana, J&K pull off big wins

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the fourth and final day of round 4. We've got four outright results so far in this round. I'll quickly summarise them for you:
Elite Group C:
Nishant Sindhu's 12-for helps Haryana defend 217 against Punjab as they now sit pretty on top of the standings with four wins in as many matches. Lahli proved a paradise for spin, with 33 wickets falling to bowlers of this variety. The victory was even more special for Haryana because they were shot out for 114 in the first innings and conceded a 27-run lead. Himanshu Rana was the only half-centurion in the match, hitting 68 in the second innings to build Haryana's lead.
Group A
J&K begun the season with two draws, but have bounced back to secure two back-to-back wins that now puts them second in the group, behind Baroda, who have their backs to the wall against un-fancied Tripura. J&K's star was Auqib Nabi, the seam-bowling allrounder, who picked up five wickets in each innings. Ultimately, Meghalaya paid the price for their first-innings meltdown that resulted in them being bowled out for 73 in the first innings.
Plate League:
Goa have thrashed Mizoram by an innings to secure a bonus-point win. Mizoram were under the pump all through and once they conceded 555 for 9, there was no way back. Agni Chopra, who came into the game with a Bradmanesque average of 99.06, failed in the first innings but made up somewhat for those lapses with a well-constructed 72 in the second innings.
92.17 Agni Chopra's first-class average after 19 innings. This includes five half-centuries and eight centuries. His scores so far this season for Mizoram: 51, 29, 110, 238*, 218, 1 and 72.
Manipur have beaten last-placed Arunachal by 320 runs for their first win this season. They're now fifth out of six
