Morkel's hit the timber and South Africa have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! All Morkel had to do was aim at the stumps and that's precisely what he did, Irfan was nailed to the crease, the ball landed on the off stump and held its line and shaved the stump, Morkel charges off and the South Africans can't believe it
South Africa vs Pakistan, 1st ODI at Sharjah, Oct 30 2013 - Match Result
Presentation:
Misbah: "We could not handle the pressure, some relaxed shots that cost us the match. Once we won a game here against Sri Lanka (1999) where they had seven wickets in hand. Our focus should be to be there till the last run in scored. the batting spoiled the party. Afridi and Ajmal bowled really well. We have to forget this game and improve for the next game."
Parnell is the Man of the Match: "Happy to contribute with bat and ball. Myself and Miller, we looked to keep the score ticking over. After my first over I though I was rushing it a little bit and from the second I was fine."
AB de Villiers: "I was focusing on making the right decisions for the guys. Disappointed with our batting performance. Would like to touch on the team performance. South Africans always believe we can turn things around. When you get a sniff you have drive it home. Immi (Tahir) was fantastic. He was always going to come back after the 40th over. Have to give credit to Tsotsobe, he gave us two wickets. Immi followed him and did his magic."
You can look back at little incidents that made the difference. Wahab's two misfields that cost boundaries is one. And how valuable was Parnell's knock? If it weren't for him, SA would have been bundled out for less than 150 for all you know.
I'll leave you guys to reflect on these and more. I'm exhausted. It's been fun bringing this game. Thanks for your company. Till the next game, it's goodnight and goodbye!
End of match: Well we've heard the "C" word being used on South Africa for nearly two decades now, but tonight, they were on the other side of the camp. Pakistan well and truly CHOKED. Let's face it. This was their game to lose and the worst case scenario came true. The batitng Powerplay saw the wicket of Misbah and for a while after that they were cruising. The wickets of the two Umars - Akmal and Amin - triggered a bit of panic but even at that stage, they held the edge because they still had Afridi and Tanvir. Afridi fell to a skier and at that stage SA must have firmly believed that the balance had shifted. Ajmal and Irfan threw their bats around and in the end they fell a run short.
Neville Smeda: "For me, Imran Tahir changed the match at the end, but there wouldn't have been a match had it not been for Wayne Parnell...so he would be my Man of the Match. SA's batting should be ashamed...they have a lot of work to do before the next one."
Shiraz: "One Word. PATHETIC-ISTAN. Enough said."
Rameez Moosa: "Needs a special talent to choke against the biggest chokers. Thank you Pakistan for making us feel special. Only if Misbah could bat forever for us."
The presentation is coming up
this one lands outside the off stump and Irfan watchfully leaves it alone, no harm done
Kashif: "Only Pakistan team can make a mess of such an easy target. They should be awarded the 'Official Drama Queen of Cricket' title."
drifts on the body and he hops and tucks it towards square leg, one run, precious! Irfan back on strike
Quite a few fielders in the deep
this time Irfan plays it safe and doesn't offer a shot, it was outside off and spinning back in
another googly and Irfan slogs and misses and the ball hits his back leg quite adjacent to the stumps! Well, well Tahir didn't actually appeal! Did he think there was an inside edge? That looked rather close! Why didn't he appeal?
a swing and a miss and there's an appeal for a stumping! Irfan looked to fetch this from wide outside off and slog over the on side, his backfoot was always back, he's safe
loud cheers as Irfan solidly pushes this back to the bowler
appeal for an lbw and he's been given not out and Tahir wants it reviewed, landed outside off,it was the wrong un, Irfan went forward to defend and it was quite a big stride, it struck the pad first and then the bat, Hawkeye shows that just clipping the leg stump! Not good enough to overturn the umpire's call so Irfan's safe!
nearly dragged it on! Irfan pulls a flatter delivery and gets an inside edge that just misses the stumps and that goes to fine leg
I don't know how many flies Ajmal's swatted the last few minutes, this too was angling across him and he looked to slog, swing and a miss, he has all but connected with the ball in this over
and now he tries to pull the short ball! It was quick and he swished at thin air, close to the glove there
Ajmal's intent on chasing the one's that are wide outside off, no foot movement, nearly an edge
and Ajmal nearly gives it away! This was angling across and he had some width, played away from the body
slices him in half! Ajmal was trapped at the crease, not sure what he was trying, the ball held its line and just sailed over the stumps
so that's two! Down the leg side and Ajmal trickles this off his pads and it just beats AB, they hurry two runs so Ajmal can get back on strike
SA must believe they can claim this. No specialist batsmen left. Ajmal has to farm the strike
optimistic shout for an lbw but that was missing the leg stump! Tahir believes he can get a wicket off every ball!
he's trapped plumb in front! What's happening here?? On the off stump, this one shot through, he was trapped on the back foot, as plumb as it could get
he drifts wide down the leg side and that's a bonus for Pakistan
nervy moment as he gets an inside edge that trickles to the on side
tossed up and he defends this one to square leg
