47.5 to WPUJC Vaas, Another pull that goes awry. Two in two overs. It was a short in length and slanted across Vass who fetched it from outside off but all he could get was a top edge that Ramdin, running to his right, pouched safely.. 224/7 55.3 to M Muralidaran, Bravo takes a very good catch at third man. Entertainment is cut short. Murali did what he does: moves outside leg and has a slog. The outside edge took the ball towards third man region where Bravo, standing well inside the ropes, ran in quickly and dived at the last minute to hold a very fine catch.. 255/9

28.5 to TT Samaraweera, Caught by Gayle at first slip. After beating him twice, he gets his man this time. It was a length delivery in the zone outside off and moving away, Samaraweera had a waft at it, bat away from the body, and the ball met the wood. It has to be said that it was quite a bad stroke.. 112/4 30.1 to DPMD Jayawardene, What an awesome delivery. It landed on a length, on the middle and off and cut away past the defensive poke to crash into the off stump. Mahela thought he had it covered. Even, the bowler had turned around to appeal, little knowing he had hit the stumps and Bowden decided to put the finger up, for his sake. At the other end, a stunned Mahela swung around, after seeing the finger go up, and was confronted with the damage. Gone! Strange, he didn't hear that death rattle.. 117/5

15.2 to SM Warnapura, Fidel makes the first breakthrough. Caught by a diving Chattergoon at third slip. Teasing delivery - on a length around the off stump and shaping away - Warnapura likes to push hard at deliveries and got an outside edge this time. Fatal. Chattergoon lunged to his left to catch it.. 62/1 17.1 to KC Sangakkara, Fidel Edwards is rocking the SL boat. Takes out Sangakkara now. It lands on the good length and moves away with the angle, Sangakkara pushes at it a bit tentatively and nicks it behind. Suddenly, two quick wickets have fallen, including the big wicket of Sanga, and Gayle must be breathing a lot easier. Remember, he won the toss.. 72/2 25.6 to MG Vandort, Caught down the leg side. It was drifting past the hips, Vandort tried to tickle it fine and nicked it, off the face of the bat, to the diving Ramdin, who takes a very good catch. Windies strike immediately post lunch.. 93/3 46.6 to TM Dilshan, Death by aggression. Dilshan has combusted early. Short in length, on the middle stump line, Dilshan went for his pull, topedged it behind square and Ramdin ran to his left to take a neat catch. Out for 62. An interesting little counterattacking innings.. 222/6

29.2 to S Chattergoon, Cleaned up! The off stump has been pegged back. It landed on a length, on the off stump line, Chattergoon thought it would come in and pushed his bat in that line but the ball straightened and hit the off stump. Vaas is delighted and gets carried away a touch in celebration: getting a touch close to the batsman and pumping his fist right in front of him. Chattergoon just puts his head down and walks past him. Not a bad debut but unfortunately, missing out on a fifty but done in by a very good delivery. 137/2 73.4 to JE Taylor, Gone this time. Finally, they get a lbw decision. Plumb as they come. It landed on the middle and off and curved in to strike him on the middle stump line. Again, he had pressed that left leg too much across and the bat couldn't come across the pad in time. Vaas strikes.. 289/8
12 | 1 | 62 | 1 | 5.16 | 42 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
57.5 to DJ Bravo, Dead plumb. Amerasinghe hurled it full and it curved in a touch to evade the waft across the line and struck him right in front of the middle stump. Amerasinghe was repeatedly pinging the short of length but suddenly, caught Bravo by surprise by the fuller one. Bravo didn't play it straight, instead went for the across-the-line swipe and that did him in.. 246/6

11.2 to CH Gayle, Gayle falls. Caught at gully. Full in length, moving away from Gayle who was struck at the crease and pushed at it, bat away from the body and steered straght to the fielder. 58/1 45.4 to S Chanderpaul, That looked out and that is out. Chanderpaul is caught on the shuffle. It came in from a length, from just outside off, the bat came outside the line of the ball and he was struck in front of the stumps. Windies trail by 79 runs. What a good last session for Sri Lanka.. 199/5
29.2 | 4 | 79 | 5 | 2.69 | 129 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 2 | |
30.6 to MN Samuels, Murali gets his man this time. It was delivered from round the stumps, on the middle and turned in. Samuels shuffles across, exposing his leg stump and pushes forward uncertainly. The ball strikes the pad in front of that middle and leg. Might have missed leg, might have clipped leg but Taufel doesn't have any doubt.. 141/3 38.1 to RR Sarwan, Sarwan falls after another fifty. Murali flights it on the leg and middle, Sarwan leans forward, tries to flick but sends it straight to that man. The short-leg had moved squarer and in fact, to a leg gully position, almost. Gone. Sri Lanka are right back into the game. Murali had placed that man for exactly that.. 177/4 62.6 to DS Smith, Murali produces a special doosra to get through Devon Smith's defenses. It looped up around the middle and off line, Smith thought it would turn traditionally and shaped to drive but the ball crept back in, collided with the inner edge and crashed into the stumps. Smith had batted well for 47 but again, another batsman fails to make use of the start.. 266/7 74.4 to D Ramdin, Caught at slip. Done in by the topspinner. He went round the stumps and ripped a toppie on the off stump and Ramdin pushed inside the line, playing for the off break, it went with the angle and a easy catch to Mahela. 291/9 76.2 to DBL Powell, West Indies have folded up for 294 and the lead is 16 runs. It spun in from outside off stump, beat the waft and caught him dead in front.. 294/10 |

8.6 to KC Sangakkara, Powell removes Sanga. Guided straight to gully. Cramped for room. It kicked up from short of length, straightened a touch and that cramped up Sangakkara who neverthless, went for a cut and all he could do was steer it straight to the fielder. 32 for 4 and West Indies are an the ascendancy here. SL lead by just 16 runs.. 32/4

1.1 to SM Warnapura, Warnapura out for a duck. Almost action replay of how he got out in the first innings. Short in length and around that off stump and he pushed hard at it, bat away from the body, and was snapped up at third slip.. 2/1 16.2 to TM Dilshan, Cleaned up. The off stump has been uprooted. Lovely incutter. It landed on a perfect length outside off stump, Dilshan shaped for a drive but it jagged back in to thread the bat and pad gap and sent the off stump for a walk. West Indies are tightening the noose here.. 73/5 24.3 to LPC Silva, Wicket no 6! It was full and outside off, Silva chased it, trying to drive through covers but edged it to gully where Samuels moves to his left to take a neat catch. The lead is 83. Four wickets in hand.. 99/6 75.1 to M Muralidaran, Caught at fine leg. Murali backed away and top-edged a slog across the line. West Indies need 253 to win. End of the day 3. Thilan Samaraweera played a gem of a knock to lift his team out the hole and charged them to a total that gives his bowlers a chance to defend.. 268/10

7.5 to DPMD Jayawardene, Played on! Big wicket, this. It was very full and well outside off stump and Mahela went down on his knee and tried to square drive. The bat-face shut and he got an inside edge that took the ball onto the stumps. 32/3
19 | 5 | 64 | 1 | 3.36 | 83 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
70.3 to T Thushara, Wicket no 8. Wide slash from Mirando. It was full in length, well outside off and Mirando tried to flay it through cover point and nicked it behind.. 252/8
14 | 0 | 30 | 1 | 2.14 | 63 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
65.6 to WPUJC Vaas, Ramdin snaps up a good catch and Gayle, the spinner, does the trick. It was tossed full outside off stump and Vaas went for an expansive square drive and edges. Ramdin grabbed a smart catch. Vaas usually takes his wicket but this time its Gayle who gets his revenge. But what a wonderful partnership this has been. Vaas has played a great hand.. 237/7 |

6.6 to S Chattergoon, Trapped in front. After repeatedly moving the ball away from the left-handed batsmen, he got this one to dip back in. Chattergoon was leaning across and the ball cut in to evade the defensive shot and rapped the pad in front of middle. 24/2 19.6 to MN Samuels, Caught at point. Samuels waits to get confirmation from the umpires whether it was a clean catch. It was. Good one from Warnapura. A clever delivery from Vaasy. He rolled his fingers around the ball and sent down a slower one. Samuels was sucked into the forward drive and he couldn't check it. He tried to by taking the bottom hand off the handle but ended up slicing it in the air towards point where Warnpura, standing slightly deep, ran in and lunged forward to take it inches off the ground. Windies need 180, Sl need 7 more. Enter Shivnarine Chanderpaul.. 73/3

5.2 to CH Gayle, DIlshan takes a stunning catch, running back from point. Gayle is gone. The Sri Lankans are ecstatic and get into a team huddle. It was full and shaping away from the off stump and Gayle went for one almighty heave over the off side field. The late movement meant the ball went in the air over cover point and Dilshan ran back, much like Kapil Dev did to take Viv Richards in the 1983 final, settled under the skier and took it. Fab effort. Kapil had to run a bit more of course but you get the idea. It was that sort of a catch.. 23/1

62.3 to RR Sarwan, Sarwan falls after a potentially match-winning innings. The crowd rise to applaud. The bat is held aloft as he accepts the cheers and walks back to the pavilion. He came down the track and tried to whip a full delivery on middle and leg through midwicket. The ball dipped early, spun, went off the inner edge on to the pad and popped up to silly point. Very well played sir.. 230/4
