crunched off a length through midwicket, another Perry blow finishes it - Phoenix bring it home by eight wickets to go two from two!
Rockets vs Phoenix, 7th Match at Birmingham, Women's Hundred, Aug 15 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Phoenix won by 8 wickets (with 9 balls remaining)
5.30pm: They were well off the pace at halfway, needing 75 from 50 balls - but in the end, Amy Jones and Ellyse Perry got home at a canter. Both finished unbeaten, their stand worth a cool 78 off 48, as Phoenix made sure their excellent bowling effort didn't go to waste. Rockets just didn't have enough on the board, albeit they defended a small target in their last game. Anyway, the men's teams are starting their warm-ups, so why not join us for the evening game? B'bye now
Amy Jones is today's Match Hero: "Felt quite difficult, the run rate was creeping up. They bowled quite tight and it was hard to find the boundary. [Batting with Perry] Great, she's got a world of experience, kept calm throughout and found her shots at the end. [Arlott] She's been great all year, for her to have the success is brilliant. A lot of credit to the bowlers. We had a really good day in the outfield - maybe not behind the stumps. With games coming so fast, momentum is something we want to keep going."
Bryce for the penultimate set
Raji: "Is Perry making a statement?" Well, she lost her place in Australia's T20 side, but this is certainly a reminder of her quality
And all of a sudden, Phoenix have as good as won this one
Jones powers four more down the ground! Deep in the crease, makes room and slaps the ball back past Sciver's outstretched arms
back of a length, Perry swivels and belts it to deep backward square
pitched up and heaved behind square, just one to the fielder in the deep
flicked off the stumps
creamed over mid-off, Perry with a high-elbow lofted drive for four more!
Sciver on, 15 from 15 needed
Brunt's last ball goes for six! Massive hit from Perry, hoyed over deep midwicket. Phoenix bring up their 100, flying towards the target now
dug in short, gloved away on the pull towards fine leg
Brunt fires it in on the stumps, expansive response from Jones, mid-on was up and isn't in the picture when the ball lands. Won't go for four, though
drops back, angled down to deep third
length ball in the channel and Perry cuts hard through point, Smith puts in the diving stop
Brunt for her final set. Phoenix need 27 from 20
Good over for Phoenix, brings the required RPB down to 1.37
uses the feet, bunted firmly back to the bowler
reverse-slapped past point! Stands up tall and brings the hands through in a scything blow, the ball skipping away to the fence
steps out and whisks this away through midwicket, du Preez does well running around the rope in the deep
looped up and clipped leg side
flicked firmly through square leg, deep in the crease and easing it away, wristy stroke into the gap for four!
Glenn is back
slog-swept, takes the top edge, and clears short fine! Spins away for a couple more
tucked to short fine leg, Jones hesitates and then has to go... not the best throw, King collects and breaks the stumps at the non-striker's end, but she just gets home!
tossed up full and dug out through mid-on for one
Perry tries to advance, struck full on the boot working across the line
floated up leg side, flicked through midwicket coming down
King for a big final set. Phoenix need 43 from 30
