An all-round performance from Veerasammy Permaul helped Guyana register a comfortable 105-run win against Jamaica in Kingston that helped them maintain their top standing in the Regional 4 day points table.
Asked to bat, Guyana were 175 for 6 after none of their top-order batsmen were able to convert starts to half-centuries, Jamaica legspinners Damion Jacobs and Odean Brown sharing five wickets between them. But Permaul led a counterattack, scoring 86 off 107 balls - his third first-class fifty - to help Guyana post 314 in the first innings.
Permaul's 4 for 22 was then instrumental in restricting Jamaica to 177 in their response and helping Guyana take a 137-run first-innings lead. Jermaine Blackwood and Horace Miller had scored 44 each as Jamaica progressed to 139 for 4 before the lower-order succumbed.
In the second innings, Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 77 lifted Guyana from a poor start - 54 for 4 - but with a lack of support from other batsmen, Guyana were bowled out for 202. Jamaica needed solid top-order contributions in the chase of 340 but they faltered early against Keon Joseph and Ronsford Beaton to be reduced to 17 for 3, then 72 for 6 on the third day. The Jamaica lower order fought for 51.3 overs on the fourth day before being bowled out for 234.
Opening batsman Tyrone Theophile and bowlers Kenroy Peters and Shane Shillingford played leading roles in Windward Islands' crushing win over Trinidad & Tobago in Gros Islet. While Theophile's maiden century helped Windward Islands post a strong 400 in the first innings, Peters and Shillingford picked up eight and seven wickets respectively to consign T&T to an innings defeat.
Opting to bat, Windwards Islands lost four wickets for 101 before Theophile added 121 runs for the fifth wicket with Keddy Lesporis. He was bowled for a 149-ball 136 that included 16 fours and four sixes. After his dismissal, Lesporis went on to score 83 while Leon Sebastian hit 56 to further boost the team. An unbeaten 60-run ninth-wicket stand between Peters and Mervin Matthew then helped Windward Islands declare their innings on 400.
T&T were feeble in their response. They were bowled out for 177, with Peters picking up five wicket for 21 - his seventh five-wicket haul. Asked to follow-on, they fared even worse, being bowled out for 75 in 32.1 overs, Shillingford being the most-successful bowler with 4 for 25.
