driven through the covers, and the ball aptly runs away to the Zimbabwe dugout. Zimbabwe's first win against Australia in Australia. Evans runs across after hitting the winning runs, his raises his bat, and gets a big cheer from the dugout, before he turns around and gets a warm hug from his captain while holding a big smile
Australia vs Zimbabwe, 3rd ODI at Townsville, AUS v ZIM, Sep 03 2022 - Match Result
3.41pm The Australian players pose with the trophy very briefly before walking back, because they'll be disappointed today. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have taken 10 Super League points and closed in on South Africa in the points table. They are still far away from the top eight, but the recent ODI wins bode very well for Zimbabwe with just over a year left for the ODI World Cup. They now head back home and will return in a few weeks for the first round of the T20 World Cup starting October 16. Zimbabwe's campaign will start on the 17th in Hobart and they'll take on Ireland, West Indies and Scotland.
For Australia, they head to Cairns now for the three day-night fixtures against New Zealand starting in three days' time. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of today's game and this series. It's time for me, Vishal Dikshit, to say goodbye on behalf of Gnasher and K Vairavan. Ciao!
Kartikeya Junej: "As a huge admirer of Zimbabwe cricket for last 16 years, really happy to have watched this live!"
Azweer : "It's not new to see Australia touching a low, just before an World Cup. I think that gives the pump to them to reach the height."
Happy: "This was a full strength Squad of Australia makes this victory more interesting"
Ruhak : "Australia with the series victory at the end, but today the celebrations in the Zimbabwe camp will definitely be the bigger one"
Time for the presentation:
Aaron Finch: Zimbabwe bowled very well in the morning and we can't take anything for granted in international cricket, you can get beaten on any given day. We had a chance with the ball but it wasn't to be. Starc and Hazlewood are two of the best in the world, we have a fiery bowling attack. Warner keeps doing it with the bat.
Regis Chakabva: Coming into the last game, there's always the thought of going through the motions. But it was a brilliant morning from the bowlers, showed a lot of tight and to get them out for that total is testament to their fight. We head home now, some fitness for the first week and then training before we come back for the T20 World Cup.
Zampa is the Player of the Series: Nice to play the Hundred before this, back in Aussie colours now and feels good. Just a bit of game time, getting to the crease, felt like it came out better and better through the series
Ryan Burl is the Player of the Match: Massively important going out to bat there, I got 10 of the 20 runs and tried to do my job. We'll take the confidence from the win, we come back here for the T20 World Cup, no better preparation than beating Australia.
3.27pm Zimbabwe first came here in 1992 and after 30 long years, they have finally registered their first win against Australia on their soil. It's a historic day for Zimbabwe cricket and it comes on the back of some other great achievements - they recently beat Bangladesh 2-1 in the ODIs at home by chasing down two big totals, and then Sikandar Raza nearly took them over the line against India in the third ODI. But today they have gone over the line, that too against Australia, and in Australia, and the credit goes to their bowlers.
The Zimbabwe players are coming out of the dressing room to hug Evans and Chakabva, their are smiles and handshakes all round, the stumps are uprooted and they'll be taken home I'm sure. The players now turn to the Zimbabwe fans who have been stationed just behind their dugout with the flags and cheers right from the morning. Good thing it's a weekend so the support must have been bigger, and these celebrations aren't going to stop soon.
Dev: "Yup, there is no place for ODIs"
Aaqib: "This is why I believe teams like Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Afghanistan should have more tours of SENA countries. "
"Just woke up late on a weekend in Lahore to see this Wow! What just happened there?" Good morning, Yasir
JOYDEEPSINGHGIL: "Historic win for Zimbabwe against Australia in Australia with 66 balls to spare it's quite a achievement "
jayson: "WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO from South Africa! Well done neighbours!!!!"
From Sampath: Fastest to 200 ODI wickets, in terms of balls bowled: 5240 - Mitchell Starc, 5457 - Saqlain Mushtaq, 5640 - Brett Lee, 5883 - Waqar Younis, 6102 - Shoaib Akhtar
nearly in the block hole and he bunts it back
Scores are level
in the air but lands safe as Chakabva drives on the up from outside off, it goes wide of gully to deep third
Azweer : "I took a break from work to watch Zimbabwe beating Mighty Australia."
in the block hole and Chakabva just about digs it out and deflects it onto his pad, while trying to direct it to the leg side
Just two to go now, for Zimbabwe's historic win in Australia. The captain is still there
errs too much on the leg side and Evans helps it down to fine leg again
makes use of the angle as Starc delivers from wide of the crease, and Chakabva helps it fine to fine leg
Starc around the wicket to Chakabva
stays back this time and steers the length ball towards point
goes for a big sweep, the length was short for that, and he takes it on the grille of the helmet as he shuts his eyes
leans forward again and blocks it back
leans forward and works the ball to the leg side
driven straight to cover, where the fielder dives but it goes off his hands and they hare across for one
slightly short on the stumps, he tucks it to leg but no run there
The fastest bowlers to 200 ODI wickets, Starc will be on top there
chipped straight to mid-off! And that's also Starc's 200th in ODIs. Has it come too late? Let's see. He continued with his off stump line on length, Burl was playing them patiently but this time he punches it down the ground on the up, and Green takes it comfortably. Burl is disappointed with himself
angling in towards the stumps and he defends it back
full and coming in, Burl patiently blocks it back
stays back again and defends into the off side
another appeal for caught behind, this time there was some noise, the keeper goes up confidently, the umpire doesn't move, Australia don't have any reviews left, and there was something on HotSpot, my goodness! He stayed back to defend but inside the line of the length ball and edged it behind, just that Rod Tucker didn't hear it
short of length towards off, he tucks it to leg for one
That was somehow a seven-ball over and it cost Australia six runs. Imagine if Zimbabwe were nine down maybe
turning into Burl, it's full, and where does he dispatch it? Right over the midwicket boundary into the grass banks where a fan takes a one-handed stunner while falling backwards
The crowd support for Zimbabwe is picking up
some drift and dip for the full ball on off, he drives to cover and gets a single after it deflects off the fielder
